CLEARWATER COIN SHOW REPORT

Just returned from the Clearwater FLA coin show & wanted to let you know what my perspective of the show was today
Attendance seemed better than the last 2 shows for the 1st day
saw lots of invoices being written up so there definitelty was business going on, retail & wholesale
Best news to report was alan hager was not set up again & Accu-Krap graded coins were almost non-existent at the show, bet you couldn't have found 10 at the show, unless I missed some at tables I didn't check out closer
I saw a lot more SEGS coins today. a few dealers were very heavy in them, while NTC coins were around but not very plentiful.
PCI coins were plentiful, a few dealers were very heavy in them, but prices are all over the board
For example i purchased a Wash 25¢ that listed in Collectors universe guide for $3,000, I purchased it for $30. Yet another PCI coin was almost the same price as a NGC coin. it pays to know how to grade as one dealer told me he purchased several PCI coins & crossed them to PCGS & they upgraded 1-3 points on each coin, needless to say he made a nice financial score
Just buy the coin & not holder maxim fits
I wanted some russian roubles & found some marked @ $110 each on the slab, before i even asked for his best price he quoted me $75 each. here was a dealer who wanted to sell his coins! not take them home
I also purchased some nice ms 66 Morgans, paid more than I expected to but prices seem to be rising faster than grey sheet is reporting. one dealer told me he's paying grey sheet ASK & above to buy almost anything decent & still getting nowhere near what he needs
I went with the intention of buying up to a dozen certified ms 63 Saints. Didn't buy even ONE!! there was very little graded gold on hand compared to july's show & what there seemed like a lot of flea market leftovers
actually there was more ungraded gold for sale than certified coins from what i saw
I think dealers were holding back till the FUN show next week
dealers were buying Gold, but not in a hurry to sell gold, guess they think prices will be up next week
I buy pre 65 proof coins & found a dealer who had a superb group of franklins & kennedys, mostly pcgs stuff & a slew of ms Ikes in hi grade, all with great eye appeal & priced very fairly
Anacs & PCI were set up at the show, anacs always seems to be busy, PCI appeared to be very slow
several dealers were trying to buy up anything nice to have for sale next week for FUN as that show may be a blockbuster for many dealers
most dealers seemed upbeat, friendly & appear excited 2004 will be better than 2003
dealer table count seems to have been a bit smaller than last january's show, again many dealers probably waiting for FUN next week
Overall was show worth going to, found some nice coins, met a few new contacts so have no complaints

Great report! PCI was set up and grading coins. ANACS was taking submissions and handing out free opinions.
How about that 1960 dime you bought???? Snazzy!
Overall a very good selling show for me. Only was able to buy a few things.
Hope tomorrow proves to be a good retail day selling.
