FREE SGC Card of the week - Round 4

I have a stash of SGC common cards that I don't have any use for. I will be giving one of them away every week to a collector in need.

Here are the requirements:

1) Only 1 card per collector
2) Recipient must have a PSA set for that particular year on the registry
3) Recipient must agree to have the card re-evaluated and holdered by PSA within 90 days (and post results).
4) Recipient must email info@psasetbuilder.com to claim card.

Here's the first card.

Regards,

Alan

  • Wow,
Thats extrememely generous of you!! I'll keep an eye out for a card that I need in the future.
  • What if you think the card won't holder??
  • BasiloneBasilone Posts: 2,492 ✭✭

I agree...that is very generous of you to share your extras with other collectors. Kudos Alan!!

    John

  • You know, it would appear that SCG diamond-cut the insert for you (to go along with the diamond-cut card) when they holdered this card. IMHO, that's pretty stellar service!

For whoever takes it... I know several dealers who would be happy to square that card up before you submit it.

  • Hey, Alan, how about telling us what is coming so we know whether to hold out or shoot our wad on one of the early birds.

At least tell us what years you have coming up.

Great idea, by the way. I wonder if BMW will ever do this for their PSA cards, trying to get us to cross to SGC?image
  • Cough-cough-cough-63's-cough-cough-75's.......and again another great gesture from some top notch people...

You know, if you put that cut on a '75 Pete Rose card, it would look like Rose is standing straight. image
I agree with beefcake's implication that PSA won't holder the card, but it's still very generous of Alan to give it away image

John Constantino was the first one to get back to me...I need your address ASAP. Please have it crossed over and get back to the board on the results. I won't say which years will go on the board or when they will go...it will be fairly random so as to make it fair to everyone.

Also, if any of you have cards that you would like to donate to the process, please get in touch with me. I only have SGC stuff sitting around but we could do BGS, BCCG, PRO, whatever.

Phillie Phanatic Neal Kane claimed the SGC 88 Senators team card last night. It will go out today Neal. Let us know how you do on the crossover.

I will have round three next week. If anyone has spare SGC cards that they would like to donate to the process, please email. Have a great holiday season.

  • My experience is that PSA and SGC put diamond cut cards in 7 holders. I predict the card will cross.

jackstraw - the left and right edges of the card as it shows on the screen (top and bottom in holder) do not appear parallel with the holder.

SGC is a good company. However, collectors have to be careful with centering on SGC cards as they are MUCH more lenient on centering than other grading companies.

Thanks Alan - appreciate it. Just an FYI, I am going to send it to PSA in the SGC holder for the crossover service. Any thoughts on minimum grade? I am going to write in 7.

    Neal,

I already mailed it out and all I have is the scan to go by. I have some PSA 8's that look worse. Unfortunately, I don't really have a recommendation one way or the other...it's your card and your call. Please let us know the results. Good luck with your set.

Here's the free SGC card of the week. This card is ultra sprcial in that it came from the esteemed collection of one Dan "Dude" Markel. I think PSA attaches a 25% premium for cards that once reside in Dan's collection. You know the rules...here's the card. email cowart@adelphia.net to claim the card. Also, if anyone has cards that they would like to donate to the SGC free card of the week sweepstakes...please email. To date, I have received approximately zero (0) donations.

For clarifications sake. I bought the card raw from Dan a few years back and submitted it to SGC.

I just received a PSA 7 on the 1967 Senators. I looked at the card closely when I received it and thought on whether to crack it out or use the crossover service. I used the crossover and it received a 7. The grade is accurate in my opinion.

    Alan, thanks again.

The card was originally graded SGC 88 ?
  • 1420sports1420sports Posts: 3,473 ✭✭✭
    Yes - SGC 88.

I am not familiar with SGC's standards, but I guess an 84-86 is in a 7 range and 88 is 7.5 to 8.

I think the PSA grade is accurate.

Glad the card arrived...the 1968 Dietz is still available to whomever wants the card.

  • I apologize if this has been addressed 100 times before but can a crossover card be submitted at the same time as a regular submission?
  • acowaacowa Posts: 945 ✭✭
I am not sure if this is round 3.5 or round 4 because noboby claimed the Dietz SGC 92 card. This free SGC card of the week should make someone berry berry happy (especially Red Sox fans) It was donated by none other than Jeff Cornett aka Big Kid at Heart.image

ACOWA - Don't forget I still have the PSA-8 Brooks Robinson AS '68 w/ PSA velvet pouch for the other program you started. Its cryin' for a new home. image ...jay
  • Cool idea, Acowa! I wish I had seen your post earlier as I collect 1952 Topps and am also a Red Sox fan.
It's fun to give your cards away. I stated on a post that I would give 10 free cards to the first 10 people who PMed me (mostly 80's cards, but I had a few older ones I was willing to throw in as well). Only 3 people responded, though.

But I got a very nice thank-you card from Vargha's son today. image

  • Dang! What's wrong with that Deckle Yaz? I've got a whole set I was thinking of sending in and none of them are that nice. Please tell me there's a crease somewhere on the back of that card.

DAVE - Any extra cards you have, send them to YDSOTTER. He is a teacher that will disperse them to handicapped children. I have a few thousand extra cards lying around that I will ship to him this week...jay

    no creases.
on the back there is some chipping around the edge
but what I think really got the 5
was a smal circular dimple on the right
front edge about half way between
    the signature and his armpit.
there are also a few very small surface
    scratches there seen under magification.

The 1968 SGC 92 Dietz card was claimed by Ian Riccaboni. It's officially round 4 with the Deckle Yaz up for grabs.

  • You guys can also send commons of St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues and modern football cards to Steve Yawitz, for his class as well as YDSotter........pm him for details.
  • What do you think kept the card out of an 8 holder? I would doubt it was the centering, as I have seen more than a few PSA 8s with equal or worse centering. SGC is usually pretty tough on the corners. The SGC label?

I'd say it's the centering. It looks to be somewhere around 80-20 left to right.

  • << <i>What do you think kept the card out of an 8 holder?? >>

    back up...
you missed what I already posted about the card.
    imageimage
  • Jeff,

Gemint is still correct about the centering, though. I know it's an SGC graded card (and I'm not as familiar with their standards), but PSA's standard for PSA 6 requires at least 80/20 centering. That is probably a major factor in the downgrading of the card, regardless of other issues that the card may have.

    JEB.
  • I was asking about the SGC 88 1967 Senators Team card.

  • Guess no one is interested in this one?
