So does everyone like the new ebay catagory for PSA?

In the last month or so Ebay has added the new PSA and BGS catagories.

I like it because it weeds out all the off brand grading companies.

  • I don't like it because it misses a lot of PSA graded cards that sellers still list under "graded cards". A lot of sellers have probably not noticed the change. I can't imagine that I will ever use a search on "PSA graded" only. I'll check back every once in a while to see if it ever catches on where all PSA graded cards do get listed under the PSA category, but even then I'd be paranoid that I was missing out on some great deal because the seller only listed under "graded cards".

Edited to add - I also pick up SGC graded cards every once in a while, so I'd be missing out on these as well.

ROB - Many still spam PSA in their title, or sell their other grading company or raw cards and list them in the PSA category, so ya gotta weed thru them as always...jay
  • I must be collecting the wrong things, because there simply isn't that much "other brand" graded material to make me have to sift and forage. PSA takes up the lion's share by far in the graded category, and I would just as soon look at all graded material (discounting AAA and NASA junk) to see what bargains might be found.

Jay,true but it narrows down to specifics narrowing the search of other items down from other companies that are keyword spam. It's usually pretty obvious ( in most cases) when someone lists PSA in the title but it's not a PSA card.

JEB-I think you have a few options when listing a graded card.
Under grades you have BGS Other Grades and PSA.

I like it. When doing impulse buying or making a Christmas list, it is nice to have a section where you can find legitimate PSA cards only.

I believe this was a response by e-bay to the flak they have been getting about AAA.
Roy will certainly dance his way around it and continue to provide a steady stream of flotsam.
It would be more useful to group psa, sgc, gai, beckett (and maybe ksa) into one category ......at least for pre 1970's cards. Put the rest of the garbage in a category labeled as such.

Rob, that's why I do my search back one level - in just plain old "graded". This gets results from all categories - PSA, BGS, & Other Graders (there is no SGC option yet). This way I don't miss any that were listed in the wrong category.

  • I"ve never even noticed it and don't see it when setting up search criteria. What am I missing?
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

Probably a lot of cards that you would be interested in! image

Seriously, on any search you do, look at the top of the page where it lists the subcategories (i.e. Home > All Categories > Sports > Cards > Baseball-MLB > Singles (1960-69) > Graded > Other Graders). If you click on "Singles (1960-96)" in this example, two subcategories will show up on the left side of the screen showing the # of items available in each subcategory (graded or nongraded). Click "Graded" and then the other subcategories will show up on the left (if there are any items available in those subcategories).

    Hope that helps.

    JEB.
  • It does not do much for me.
I always search with PSA in the title and not by category. I don't trust sellers to properly place their items in the right categories. image
