Thoughts on the Superior Auction DVD

I just wanted to ask the question out there to you all. I was disturbed seeing them handle the autographed balls and that Willie Mays mit.

What do you think of it?

Tried to listen to it in the car and didn't like any of the songs that were on it. image

I got one in the catalog and 2 more just arrived in the mail.

Are they all the same ones?I have to go somewhere else to watch DVDs but am curoius
    what's on them.
  • I would agree he seemed a little caviler. What about the oil from his hands on the ball? I would expect gloves. Great cards to look at… I am looking at the 68’s.
    Thanks,

I haven't watched it yet. I'll have to drop it in the player and see how they handle that 1960 wax box/packs. image

Yeah, my mom worked in a museum for several years and she always told me how you HAVE to handle anything of importance with coton gloves because the oil from your hands will damage what your handling. Yupp, I was not happy seeing them handle a number of things. The Wagner ball, Ruth ball, Mays mit, and some other things.

Oh well. Hopefully superior will read this and realize they made a little mistake. I don't mean any harm to Superior I think they are a great, I just hope they can see one sides view on this issue.

    Reagrding the last National DVD.
What was the point of watching Chris Porter hold up PSA card after card, and say virtually the same thing
    about each card.

The camera never showed a detailed close-up of the card and I would wince when I saw their
.2c white sticker on the back of every slab!

I though it was a silly waste of money.

    Loves me some shiny!
  • I totally agree ....there has to be a much better presentation method than that!!
Anytime there was a close up on the card, that was when you were paying attention.
Other wise, it looked like a amaturish (sp.) home made movie.
For the money allocated, there has to be a more effective presentation aproach.
After a while, I litterally kind of got sick of it's redundancey......and just turned it off.
There is always room for improvement. image
    Kind of like my spelling.
Just my .O2 which is probably all it is worth.

Superior ought to think of other ideas on how to more effectively use the DVD.......like have Paris Hilton do the viewing of all cards. Now that is a good idea.

My guess is that the dvd concept is more a "sales gimmick" to gain consignments than anything else.
......when they are the only auction house "on the cutting edge", does presentation quality from the bidders standpoint matter at this point ?
especially with every card being razor, super, blinding, amazing, phenomenal, awesome, stunning and tough.
I'll give Chris some credit though, I doubt I would do as well.
  • Perhaps I was a bit harsh in my last post.
It is always easy to be a critic, but let's give them some idea's on how WE THINK the presentation can ultimately be improved.
That would be a positive step, in my mind.
I would just as soon not see the guy on the screen at all and just focus on a SEVERE CLOSE UP of the card at hand.
    Front & Back.
Really a quick discription is all that is needed.
A close up picture is worth a thousand words, especially when the same words are being used over and over again.
I want to be able to SEE THOSE FOUR RAZOR SHARP CORNERS up close and personal.
Not whether the guy holding up the card in now looking a little sleepy or has dawned a new baseball cap.
    Other thoughts gang ...............

  • I think the DVD is a great idea. I was very impressed with the idea and implementation.

But the production value is very poor. Porter does the best he can, but it still seems kind of weird. That pale white wall behind him and the funny looking office plant, that has seen better days don't help much.

Also Porter could use a manicure. image

I agree they should give close ups of all the cards. Display the cards on a black cloth and have the camera ZOOM in on each corner of the front AND back.

I commend Superior for doing it. I think it is a WONDERFUL idea, but the presentation needs improvement. I'm sure over time they will improve.

How about that big ripped off hang nail he had on his right hand. One of the hands, I can't remember off hand!

I really like the DVD idea.....although the still pictures of the cards could be a bit more natural. I'm sure Chris would be receptive to any suggestions.

I spoke to Chris at Nationals on the subject.

My suggestion was to have a pro shot close up of each card with his voice over. It could be split screened or full screen. I have no knowledge of the technology, but being able to see a high quality stable visual of each card would improve the DVD greatly.

He was very open to the idea.

I am sure if someone passed along a well intentioned suggestion, he would be equally as receptive.
