Berlin, 1806

Here's one for those who thought they knew everything about Napoleon. After the epic defeats of the Prussian army at
Jena-Auerstadt Napoleon paused in Berlin long enough during the pursuit to ensure that the veterans of his enemy's army
still received their pensions under the French administration.

The veterans were so appreciative that later in the year they struck this tiny [18mm] medal to commemorate the event. The
Prussian government was embarrassed by the event and destroyed as many as they could find. As a result they're quite rare.

I love this hobby! image

I've heard that Napoleon was very appreciative of the common soldier, whether they were friend or foe. Nice medal vern image

Of course Nappy never really did do right by Davout. The Marshal beat an army twice his size at Auerstadt while the Big N won at Jena with the odds reversed. And that's history too... image
