Am off to a little coin show there today and possibly tomorrow. Anyone in the area could go thru the show in 1-2 hours. But there will probably be an older man set up [98%collector 2%show dealer] who will bring 5 or 6 coins from his silver type set that would rival or perhaps surpass some of the coins in the Knoxville collection. They remain unslabbed [doesn't trust the grading services to not scratch his coins? or so his says] but they are as beautifully toned and immaculate specimens as I have ever seen. Plus he brings mostly different coins every year. So if you're in the area stop by and see if you agree.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
Thanks,
Sean Reynolds
"Keep in mind that most of what passes as numismatic information is no more than tested opinion at best, and marketing blather at worst. However, I try to choose my words carefully, since I know that you guys are always watching." - Joe O'Connor
It isn't a big show, but it's one of the few I actually manage to get to. Sometimes I even find something to buy.
Frank is the one with some extraordinary type coins
Although I have never been to his shop Charles Cataldo has a shop in Huntsville and turns up some amazing coins. In my dealings with him he has always been honest, dependable and knowledgable...usually has a table at most regional shows.
I was mostly looking for classic commems myself and saw quite a few nice ones. But I blew my budget on the Isabella and had to leave the others for someone else. I saw a really nice Alabama 2x2 but it was way out of my price range.
Charles shop is called Alabama Coin and it's on Bob Wallace Drive. It's a bit hard to find if you don't know where to look and there's almost no parking. But it's worth stopping in if you get the chance.

I purchased a 3 NGC green label sample slabs(please don't report me to the sheriff) and a very nice raw 51 MS Franklin, also sold a few things.
Dahlonega.... I missed out on seeing FD's type coin display. He told me they were standing lib. quarters. I bet they were awesome. He did have a notebook full of pictures of his high grade PQ+++ toned commem collection that he showed me . He cracks all of his certified coins out of their holders and puts them in capital plastic holders so they won't continue to tone. He buys the capital holders with small holes in them and redrills them bigger by hand to asure the coins won't rotate within the holders.
I live near Huntsville. There is Alabama Coin and Silver Company. My friend, Charles Cataldo, owns it. Check it out. Address and phone: 912 Bob Wallace Avenue, Huntsville, AL, 256-536-0262.
Directions from I-565 going south on Memorial Parkway:
- South on Memorial Parkway
- Exit on Bob Wallace Avenue on the Right
- Left onto Bob Wallace Avenue for about 1/4 Mile
- Coin Shop on Left between Volunteer Center and Scuba Diving Shop
It is easy to miss, so drive slow so you don't pass it!
The show was great, but I didn't get anything this time.
Yes, the guy mentioned is Frank. He's a member of our coin club. He is trying to get me to put together a type set for display at shows!
Anyone going to the St. Louis, MO silver dollar coin show? I used to live there, and I'm thinking of maybe going (not sure).
