! quick question, how long has ngc used the star designation

NGC began using the " * " (STAR) at the same time they also were using the " T " (for toned) and the " W " (for white) and that was July of 2000. NGC dropped the "W" and the "T" and continue, with success, to use the STAR. Many of the Apalachian Hoard War Jeffersons with their amazing colors were graded in August of 2001 and a percentage of them received the STAR.

EDIT the above to reflect it was the summer of 2000 and not 2001 the AH Jeffersons were graded/holdered.

But seriously, how can one date a NGC slab. I have one that I can't believe doesn't have the * designation.
The # on the slab is 234972-043.

I believe most if not all grading services purposely use a numbering scheme which makes it difficult or impossible to tell when a coin was graded, and I know PCGS does this.
