Survived Isabel

Hi all just a short one here to let everyone know I'm safe ( but I'm getting tired of being in the dark ). We got wind here in Norfolk of around 70-80 mph with some higher gusts. The power went out on Thursday afternoon here and we are still in the dark, I'm on the computer using my generator. I had two trees come down in my back yard each of them missed the house by few feetimage. Had another branch wipeout my grarge door and one took out the hood of the wife's car. Over all I was one of the lucky ones Just need a new door and fence, other's are much worse. A freind of our's around the corner had 5 trees on his house. Spent yesterday cuting up tree's there and in my back yard. To keep this coin related so the forum police don't come after me I did find a 1930 something dime near an uprooted tree next doorimage. Thanks for all the prey's that were out there.

  • Glad to hear you survived! Hard for me to believe you folks up there are still out of power! We lost power (here in Kill Devil Hills on the Outer Banks) for only 22 hours! I'm about 1/4 mile from the ocean and didn't even lose a screen from the front porch! Lucky, I guess. Most of the damage was done on the oceanfront and heavily treed neighborhoods with above ground power lines such as yours.

Was it one of those "winged liberty" fishing lure type of dimes???image
  • Glad to hear it halfnut...I know my counterparts in Norfolk are just getting back to work.

I was at a conference in Hawaii last week...had several folks from the Norfolk area there. They had CNN flashed up on the screen during the breaks, and the poor Norfolk guys had to watch the events from 8000 miles away. Apparently all the families pulled through okay though.
  • Day six and I'm still in the dark --- thinking about joining the dark side --- now were is that bag of funny money I have around here.

  • I hear ya! Ours went out Thursday night and didn't come back on until Sunday afternoon. Had water but no septic. Took showers by hose in the back yard after nightfall. Its so frustrating not knowing the status of things. No damage though, new homes and no older trees. Lost some freezer items, and the beer went warm!!
  • Glad to hear you are surviving! Hope you get the lights back on soon.

  • I'm glad you're OK and you didn't have gobs of damage. We were blessed as well. We only had to clean up the yard and the street to get by. I can empathize, however, with you because of our experience with Fran. 11 days without electricity, 14 without phone... 98 degrees and humid...

    God speed and good luck!

Glad you are o.k...here's a image to you and to the line crews that are working long, hard hours getting ya'll's power back on!

My hubby is a lineman...here in Montana we had a microburst and he worked 18 hr. days (AFTER working a straight 40 hrs.) for over a week getting everyone back in power. It is an extremely dangerous job...under those conditions...the dangers multiply times 2...3...4??? So hang in there...you have a generator and we're glad you could make contact...just know those linemen haven't forgotten ya!

Find anything minted in '52...let me know...I'm from Montana where we like it RAW!

    Best wishes,
