a suggestion for PSA regarding the new holder

I recently was speaking to a collector friend and he had a very good idea:
when it's time to launch the new holder, continue to offer an option to have your cards slabbed in the "older-holder", at least do this to us freaks down here in the set registry cave for a few months.

I had the same discussion with a couple of fellow registrants as well. I rather like the idea. Having a uniform holder was important to me at the start as it is now. PSA would have to have a qualification for such a thing. For instance if you're more than 50% complete, etc. In addition, a "cut-off" date may be appropriate. Maybe launch the new holder for 2004. That way everything in the new holder is post-04 and they make a clean delineation between the two.

A bigger question, is how much would pre-04 holders be devalued? I think they will be devalued...but how much? For collectors with thousands into their sets, it is a big-picture kind of problem.

I think the who new holder is a problem that old-time collectors are just going to have to get used to. It is similar to buying a car and have the model style change 2 years after you bought it.

At least PSA is changing the holder for the right reasons (security and to increase sales in game-used market) and not just to make everyone go out and reslab their cards for the heck of it.

My point was that a grace period would allow some of us time to complete works in progress;
get those last raw cards in the set graded make those final crack-out decisions. Heck, I've crossed many cards both ways (SGC-PSA and vise-versa) just for the sake of uniformity in my sets. Of course this courtesy would be limited in both time frame and scope.

I could see PSA offering that service. If anything...to clear out the extra (old style) slabs in stock and/or fufill contractual obligations with the supplier.

Has anyone even heard anything offical, from PSA about the change, since the national??

I haven't seen anything official. PSA has a lousy way of announcing new products. The ticket grading thing was announced months ago, but there has been very little about it. They announced they would grade T-3 Turkey Reds now, but has anyone actually seen one graded?

PSA could learn a few lessons about learning to roll out a new product....

I mean why in the world would they not at least show an example of the new holder to people when they make the announcement.

My post is not meant to sound negative, but the drip-drip can be annoying.

I wasn't at the National so I didn't hear Joe announce the new holder. To those who were there, did he give any indication as to what it will look like in comparison to the "old" holder? One thing i hope they do is add the card name, # and grade to the very top end like GAI does. That would make it easier to find a specific card when they are stacked in a box.
