Nice pick-up Stump on the '69 PSA 9 & 10 Lot

I very seriously considered picking it up myself. It's nowhere near the $30,000 value the seller claims but I crunched the numbers and it's probably at least worth $11,000 or maybe even $12,000 or more. I just came home and was going to clear it with my wife since it meant moving some money around and was going to hit the BIN and you beat me to it. Congratulations. I guess it wasn't meant to be.
I suppose this also means Nomarhunter is out of the picture for collecting '69's. Now that's a shame!

Have a great weekend. I'm heading out of town for the weekend.

Thanks coudn't resist too much on the table. Randy had a family problem and had to make a quick liquidation. He didn't want to but will be out of the 69's for a little while anyway. I can't say I would miss him as we all have bumped heads with him. All in all I hope eveything ends ok. I know I had to miss the national because of a cancer scare with my wife but all is fine here. No cancer and back up and running.

Congrats Stump....that is one heck of a lot...WOW!!!
John
Do you all not invest your money in stocks/bonds/mutal funds/real estate?
Or are each of you worth $3-$5 million?
I feel like I am pretty well off, but find it hard to even spend more than $100 on a card, but I guess my collection isn't part of what I consider my investments.
Anyway- Congrats!
Let's just say...if I have Stumps money...I would burn mine.

Alan

NICE lot!!
I sent you an email yesterday with regards to this lot. I've had trouble getting emails through to AOL users. Let me know if you got it.
Thanks,
Dave

I do invest in stock and mutual funds but only keep 20% of my net worth in the market. I also have a 4 store franchise along with several developments including condo's, apartments and commercial properties. The collecting of cards for me anyway is not an investment it is a hobby. I dont plan on retiring from the buying of graded cards. I truely believe that would be difficult. I do plan on retiring from my investing into real estate. They dont make anymore dirt so I feel that is a great investment.
As far as the lot is concerned as of this hour I have sold 4400.00 worth already and still have quite a few left. I am taking 54 cards from this lot and will sell the remaining 115. I do have a set that is one card from complete so the cards I do keep 11 10's and 43 9's I will have 11 9's and 43 8's to sell on top of that. When I am done I believe I will have made 54 upgrades for less than 1000.00 which for this set is a bargain considering 11 are tens. That was my reasoning when I hit the buy it now and I know Dude or someone else would have pulled the trigger because the math worked on this one. So there you have it the answers to your questions.
Dave
I'm with you on being boggled by these gents throwing around the mulah. As Stump mentions however, this was not a difficult decision. Another friend who's almost exclusively in Graded Cards essentially finances his purchases with selling off the upgraded cards. If you've got the set or year specific knowledge on the rare cards and who's chasing what, it's not that difficult I suspect. Big lots like the one in this thread are a gold mine for the people with knowledge, patience and wherewithal to pursue it.
Now, the working capital requirement these gentlemen are able to work with is a different story. That's why my eBay search is topped at $20 for now.
Very nice lot.

mrc32,
I was planning on keeping probably 25 cards and flipping the rest since I already have them in at least PSA 8 and was hoping to recover most if not all of the money.
This was a good buy and about every 6 months something like this comes along. I've won a few like this in the past that were fantastic and I've lost out on a few that I got beat out on. One I recall that was a gold mine that I missed out on was 2 years ago when MemoryLane put an near complete graded '68 Topps set with a $25,000 Buy it Now. It was about $10,000 underpriced at that time for that market. I had scrambled around trying to get partners and then the seller closed the auction early and then sold off the set in individual lots.
I save and invest a lot more in other things than sports cards - mostly my 401K plan and a discount stock purchase plan my company offers.
Got that Palmer for you. LMK. Also, whatever became of your 1981 Winfield K submission?
Steve
Shoot me an email on the Palmer and I messed up my submission and finnally got it fixed. It should pop anytime
