    Depends what color you want to achieve.

    350 degrees for four to six hours and don't forget to crack the coin out of the slab first. I always get burned if I don't do that..

    I'm putting a bust dime in one of those little red potatoes and want some nice color... how should I do it? (I plan on only having half in the potato/half in the open.

    Result of my own experiment. This coin was heated inside a spoon over an open flame on my stove. I watched it turn from silver to gold to prange to red to blue and then finally purple. I also learned that if the coin touches all sides of the spoon, it will target tone. I did this not to deceive, but to keep from being deceived. I spent the coin.image I'd love to know how many eyebrows it raised. They become much easier to recognize if you understand the look and the process. JMO
