Toned GSA?

I was looking at my GSA Morgan last night and when I tilted it a certain way in the light I noticed a very slight brownish tone in a couple of places. Would this have most likely happened before the coin was placed in the GSA slab, or could it happen within the slab? If so, it would presumably continue to tone over time, right?

If the holder says "Silver Dollar" it was toned when holdered. If it says "Uncirculated Silver Dollar" it was untoned when holdered. It's also possible that if it only had very light tone it was holdered as "Uncirculated Silver Dollar" and also possible that it developed a slight tone after it was holdered. It can continue to tone over time but very slowly. If it has toned in the holder it has taken it almost 30 yours to develope what you barely see.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • Cool! Thanks for the info.

In the great majority of cases, Dog's right on the mark with his comments about the holder designation.

Interestingly though, I've seen a number of examples, almost all 1880-CC's in Uncirculated holders that are 100% toned. And they're bag toned so I know they went into the 'uncirculated' holders in that condition. Why? No clue. Generally, if they had even a trace of toning they went in the 'silver dollar' holders.
