This guy was actually a little clever. He removed the Heritagecoin.com on the bottom of the photo.

Scam auction

Here is the Heritage auction:

Current Exclusively Internet auction

Let loose the dogs of war....

Oh yeah, I forgot to add eBay has already been notified.
There's nothing in the rule book that says an elephant can't pitch.

I sent the guy an email saying I'm in Phila also, and would like to see the coin in person, and would make an offer on the spot. We'll see if he replies...

    Hey, Geraldo Rivera isn't worried.

I think I am going to auction NOTHING on ebay. Fully described as nothing.

Look how well Seinfeld did with nothing.

Haven't yet figured out how to grade it.

    Almost ...something???

besides being a scam, the coin sucks.

  • What I find astounding is that over a half dozen different bidders will bid significant money with a seller having 3 feedback!!!!!!image

I am thinking the guy may actually have something like a 1795 dollar and just snagged the photo because he thought it looked like his -

How dumb can the guy be? He gives his name and town, and snags a current auction picture? If it was a complete scam wouldn't he have taken a Heritage photo from something 5 years ago?

Looks like he blocked Geraldo. Tell me again how much trouble you can get into by emailing the bidders? Maybe just to point out the link either to this string or the Heritage auction. I may have a slow day at work today (or not....) and sometimes I just like to see the scum squirm. It's a hobby.

Squirm him. I've had occasion to contact buyers and warn them, when I have found a scam. To ease the pain, I would say: "I was looking at the coin, did some research, found it here, L@@K, you're getting scammed!" Usual replies are...a bit 'dis-respectful'. But I'll still go for the warning, because I hate collectors getting stiffed.

Whats the play on this? Bid at Heritage, put it up on ebay before the Heritage hammer hits. If it sells on ebay, for a profit, conclude the transaction. If not, send the coin back to Heritage, via return policy.

Or snipe the image, stiff the ebay buyer? Or is it snipe the image, because he doesn't have on of his coin, and he's 'honest' going to conclude the transaction.

What if he's the actual buyer of the Heritage coin, and has won, obviously. Ebay bidder, bids and wins at a less price. What's this guy do, stiff the ebay buyer? He'd have to, or take a loss. But the ebay auction will shill up, of course.

Tell eBay the seller won't pay his fee. That's the only incentive eBay has to shut it down
