Holy Grail 52 Topps

I have been in card collecting for 20 years and have finally decided to take the plunge.I figure that I have 30 years of collecting left(if I make 75),and I have always wanted to try this set.I am not sure what grade yet,but realistically,7's are probably the best bet for the money. This set will probably be a full 20 year project. Are there any sets that you are collecting that are going to take 25% of your life to complete? What is the longest completion time for a set you have collected or projected time for a set that you are working on?Any aspirations to do something as idiotic as I am about to undertake?

Vic, I have had insane thoughts of pursuing a 1952 set after the kids are gone from the house. Heck, it'd probably make the wife leave as well.

    Vic,

I've actually started picking up a few 8s here and there from the '52 set. I think it will probably take more than a lifetime for me to complete it. Though I normally set PSA 8 as the minimum grade for my set, the '52 will probably have to be an exception. I've also noticed that many of the 7s and 8s are marginally within the centering guidelines or have a noticable tilt. I try to avoid those cards like the plague which will make my effort to build the set even more challenging. So far I have 8 PSA 8 commons on the way to me. I'll try to pick up 15-20 per year and then worry about the star cards.

As for longest completion time for a set I've already built, that would be my 1969 set. I started building it in 1982 and didn't complete it until 1996. And I'm still upgrading some of the cards from 7s to 8s.

    Good luck with your set.

    Gemint,

I'll bet I know where you got those cards.image Good luck with your set also.If you see me bidding on cards that you are also bidding on e-mail me.I am sure that we can work out something so that we are both not in the poorhouse.

Yep, I did buy some of Murcerfan's 8s. I won't be very active bidding on 52s though. What's your ebay ID?

I am not going to be very active in bidding on 52's either. My ebayID is Tipem as of now.I am thinking of changing it but that is it for the present. So far,I have not had any problems with other bidders bidding up auctions that I have bid on.Have you turned your PM on. If so,if I change my ID I will pm you.

    Thanks,
    Vic

I plan on starting the 52 Topps set in PSA 8 and higher, first thing Sunday morning. That is if I win the $135 million Powerball drawing....which I am planning on doing!

I would go ahead and prebuy the set now as you seem pretty sure that you have the winning numbers.image I am assuming that you are going to start and finish the set in one fell swoop WHEN you win the powerball.

  • mrc32, first thing I am going to buy is Neronde's 56 set that he has been trying to sell for months, when I win the Powerball! Don, wrap em up baby, get em ready to ship, because tonight's the night! 50 million after taxes. I will be Joe Orlando's favorite customer! If I do not win, it's back to collecting 87 Topps & 88 Fleer's in PSA 7's. image
Orioles cards from 1960 to today.

    Be good my brothers.
