Is this a Legit PayPaly Email??

I'm hesitant to fill out the form and hit a submit button without knowing it's real. Anybody know if it's real?

  • My gut feeling is DO NOT fill out any form and hit submit. PayPal will never ask for credit card info or password in this fashion, if at all.

  • I would guess its a scam. The thing that makes me think its a scam is they are asking you for you PIN number. there little machines out there that can do up a debit or money machine card in about 2 seconds and then if they have your PIN number they can take money right out of your account.

SCAM I would forward it to paypal

  • Thanks Lady and Gents,
I figured it was fishy. That's why I posted it here. One of the things that tipped me off was that I think all my other PayPal emails are personalized. This one just has a generic greeting. I'm going to forward it to PayPal. Does anybody have the email address to forward it to?

All these sites have said repeatedly, they will never ask for password, credit info, etc. via email.

What a good laugh that email would have brought me. I don't believe the IQ of the "scammer" could be much more than 75. What an idiotic email image

  • The only thing that gave me pause was, what if it was for some insane reason legitimate. I wouldn't want them to shut down my account because I was paranoid. But then once I had the chance to really think about it, all the things everyone has mentioned ocurred to me.

If for some reason they actually had a legitimite reason for needing that information they would have told you to go to the paypal website and enter it, and they would NOT have a link to take you there! That is so you can feel secure that you are at the real site when you go to it yourself

Try forwarding it here, and if it bounces send it here. Paypal belongs to Ebay and the second link is where Ebay wants this kind of stuff forwarded. They respond pretty quickly.

Hey, they finally got around to sending me this scam. Funny thing is, the moron sent it to an eMail address I don't use for PayPal, and never have. It's the address I use at forums like this one.

Anybody who wants to see what it looks like as an HTML page, click here.

The "Log In" button is a submit form with this URL:

    http://www.paypal.com@fredhomepage.port5.com/boyz.php

    That's so cute.

I could be wrong but I was thinking the only info Paypal will ask for is a new exp. date on your card.

Russ, I also got the email sent to an email address I don't use for Paypal. Looking through the coding of the message it appears to redirect you from a legitimate looking Palpal address to another website if you were to click on the link.

  • image yep, I got a similar e-mail six weeks ago. Though cleverly crafted, it didn't catch too many
victims. By the time an investigation was started, the crooks had disappeared. Sounds like they're
    still at it. BEWARE

I received that bogus PayPal email. I also received this one, supposedly from eBay. I found it odd that eBay would attempt to authorize any kind of payment from my credit card... especially since I haven't bid on anything in a long time.

Recently we attempted to authorize payment from your credit card we have on file for you, but it was declined.
For security purposes, our system automatically removes credit card information from an account when there is a problem or the card expires.

Please resubmit the credit card, and provide us with new and complete information. To resubmit credit card information via our secure server, click the following link:

Anyone who gives out their ATM PIN --as the supposed PayPal email requested -- deserves to get bilked. Okay, not really, but c'mon -- asking for your ATM PIN? How could that possibly be legit?

  • PayPal and eBay emails always start out with Dear "Name" and it's not Dear PayPal Customer unless you've signed up on eBay as PayPal Customer...

  • What’s the URL for this? We should get a few thousand of us to bomb the thing with fake information.

Okay so that would be wrong. Sure sounded fun for a minute though.
