1878 7/8 TF-NO EXTRA FEATHERS REQUIRED

Someone had asked the question of how many extra tailfeathers it took for an 1878 Morgan to be considered a "7/8." Actually there are quite a few that show no tailfeathers. Still, the A reverse working dies were hubbed with the B1 reverse making them a 7/8. Here is an example, a VAM-31. Note the extreme doubling of the legs and talons.

WOW - that's cool JC! That's one of the nice things about having the VAM book and reading about the different die states, etc. There's a wealth of knowledge in that book! You could make a hobby out of just collecting individual 1878 die varieties!

    Thanks for the pic!

  • I used to try and corner the market on 7/8's but ran out of money pretty quickly. ALL I used to collect was Morgans, for quite a period of time. I blame all you people for making me spend money on other types now. Bad people, BAD, BAD PEOPLE!!!
