FINALLY GOT AN IMAGE OF THE EXTREME DIE CLASH...

that I can live with on the 1971 Proof Dime. Although I can't get the forehead and hair to show well, the entire head is evenly outlined on the reverse. The leaves are imprinted on the obverse, especially on the bridge of the nose, right in front of the eye. Looks like spectacles.

Figured out how to get an ancient Hewlett Packard scanner to work with my laptop. It's tough being computer STOOPID.

    I'm glad I am a Tree
  • Now that you mention it, it sort of looks like a "Pencil-necked geek" wearing a derby.

  • WOW!! That's a great coin you have there. And a proof too. I wonder who was scratching their butt when this one got by! imageimage

TWODOGS, I think clashed die coins are one of the neatest errors out there. That one is fairly dramatic and some on copper coins are just really cool.

Extreme clashes like that are cool coins, your's reminds me of a Merc forum member Grip posted a long time ago:

  • Yeah, it just blew me away when I saw it. It's still in the proof set case with all the other coins. I'm trying to find out if anyone else has run across a similar die clash in a proof set. It may cause quite a stir on eBay.

Hi James. There are extreme clashed dies on dimes and quarters in proof, on 71s thru 73s. Although very dramatic, they are around. Value for extreme examples....$200-300. Good luck.

    Thank you,

    Mike Byers

Great coin! Thanks for posting. I wish we could see more clashes like that. I once went to my local coin shop where the guy has an amazing inventory and asked about clashes. He got kind of excited, but had none to show me.
    I collect circulated U.S. silver
  • I got all excited when I saw this, myself. It was bought at a local coinshop where I have done a lot of business over the years. I pointed it out to the shop owner, and he still sold it to me for $5.00. I told him I would give him a kickback when I sold the set.
