Indian cents are pretty nice. Lincolns you see almost everyday so you take them for granted ( the ultra high proofs with DCAM look really good ). But my favorite are the Braided Hair Large Cents. I had one when I was a kid and it was one of my favorite decent coins. I don`t have it anymore. But now that I`m older, I hope to replace it with a nice AU - MS62/63 example sometime.

I like the design of the Indian Head cents best.

    I also prefer RED copper

Large cents are big and clunky and full of wonderful history! - they would be my choice! image
  • I really like the IHC. No offense at all to anyone, but the later large cents have a stodgy liberty. I think they're beautiful to behold, don't get me wrong... I just thing the IHC is unique and interesting(erimage) to behold.

Now, if you throw in the FE, I'd have to say the FE is my favorite. You folks probably already know how I feel about eagles on coins...image

Large cents have more variety. They also have the novelty of being larger than current cents.

I have a soft spot for the many red tones of copper and IH's provide a wide range of them.

  • Liberty Cap large cents are my favorite! If you can find one with a nice planchet and an even chocolate brown color, there's nothing more beautiful in my opinion.

I like them all, and agree with Dan about those chocolate brown Large cents. What needs to be said about Lincolns? They've outlived most of the people born in 1909. I always get a kick out of seeing early date Lincolns in pristine condition, they take me back in time more than any other coin.
  • Shylock, you've got a point, there.

I remember some of those extraordinary pictures posted recently on early Lincolns in super-grades, super-red from a private collection. If they all looked like that...
  • If it was one of the choices I'd pick the Flying Eagle, hands down. Among those listed, though, I'd have to choose large cents. I'm quite fond of an even brown Draped Bust or Liberty Cap Large Cent.

This one isn't as brown as I'd like, but the price was right.imageimage

    indian head cents

as they are really good values right now

especially so very much so!!!! for the proofs in red brown and brown if they have the right look to them and many times scarcer than the lincolns

and also good looking visually appealling

    sincerely michael

  • I love the look of the bust large cents. I saw a flowing hair-wreath large cent last night that was just beautiful. The dark chocolate color and smooth texture of the open field on the obverse was amazing. The graceful leaves between the bust and the date complemented the dramatic windblown hair. I was amazed by how beautiful this coin was.

I have a couple of draped bust large cents. They are among my favorite coins.image

  • I had to place my vote for the Lincoln. Besides it being the longest running coin, it is where I got my start collecting. And it is the only set that I have completed. imageimage
