That is an ugly PSA 8. I can't believe this bidding war between these two bidders (I don't recognize either one). Even if it is currently a low pop 8, many more 8's, 9's, and even 10's are still out there just waiting for a nice grading special (sorry, that's another topic). You could get several really nice 1960's commons in "Mint 9" grade for that kind of cash. Maybe the Larry Parrish Player set is getting ready to explode on the registry!
Jackstraw - you got a deal I'll take your 1976 Johnny Bench PSA 9 and 1976 Pete Rose PSA 9 and the total is $100.00 delivered. Send me your address and I'll hook you right up!!!
I gotta admit that there are some pretty aggressive bidders on that 76 Set, especially when it comes to Bench and Rose in a PSA 9.
Unless one or both of the bidders are Larry Parrish and/or friends and relatives of Larry Parrish, I would chalk this up to a classic case of eBaying while drunk . . . let's be careful out there.
Same high bidder on the Parrish has bid more than a 50-spot on a 1973 PSA 8 Doc Medich / Steve Busby rookie: Auction. Amazing, particularly because it takes two to tango. My guess is that most PSA 8 1973s would fetch under $8. This bidder seems to be quite a fan of current and former Rangers players. Yet two graded Gaylord Perry's I had up last week hardly got a nibble.
As they say in Vegas, good luck with that ace . . .

If Scott Wetzel needs it in an 8, it must be a tough card.
Wow! I got one of those for only $5.25 less then two weeks ago. Here is what I think it is. Call me crazy, but I think that ever since that thread ran about stains on graded cards, there are at least two people who I think believe that those stains make the card "one of a kind" and will bid accordingly to get it. It sounds nuts, but what else could it be? I am serious here. I would bet that I couldn't sell my "regular" PSA 8 for $40 to the runner up in that auction. Does anyone else think this might be true??? Dave sellerman23
lafayette is a crazy bidder who bids on everything and anything he needs. he has pretty much caused me to quit bidding on 76's and i know for a fact he ran a few people out of the 75 market. the high bidder is exactly that, i don't recognize the id. the seller is top notch and i think he has just got lucky. i would be willing to bet that the first bid was an accident and the second well i have no idea, maybe the bong slipped and hit the confirm button it's not like he bid 17 times to get to 96 bucs he bid once?
Anyone ever bid against lafayette something or another. I used to see him all the time as a bidder for 1957 Topps baseball. He also seems to be active in 1976 Topps. Maybe he is one of the people on this forum. Just curious.
Always buying high grade Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton cards!!!
Lafayette43 was heavy into 1975s when I started about 16 months ago. I lost out on any number of cards to him, but won a couple that I really wanted when I realized he placed a bid of $18 on each card and rarely revisted them. Fortunately, he moved on elsewhere shortly after. His ID gets mentioned seemingly whenever he starts on a new project as he outguns the "regulars" on that set.
