My latest eBay snipe. . your thoughts?

1806 half

I watched this coin on ebay for several days and while the obverse "marks" are distracting, I thought I'd gamble on it and see what NCS could do with it. The seller calls it "junk" - I call it a nice piece of history and it will be the oldest coin in my collection.

Any thoughts?

  • That dealer calling the coin junk shows how much he knows about coins. Not much. image

What a bunch of junk (i'm talking about the description not the coin) Considering that its an early dollar light cleaning are accepted, even NGC/PCGS slab cleaned stuff like early dollars, bust halves, seated coins.... anyway i agree with the holder on this one looks like a nice Fine to me. Congrats on picking up a great coin at a sweet price.

I hate to admit it, but my wife was coming into the family room at the time so I had to put in my bid BEFORE she got here and I'm probably lucky somone else wasn't watching it too image

Very nicely done. You can tell alot about a person by their text descriptions on Ebay. It is obvious that
this is a very unsophisticated seller. Early bust halves are great. He should know that 90% have been cleaned at one time. This is a very nice example and the price is great.
