What's the one coin that you would most like to see in an upcoming auction?

What's the one coin that you would most like to see in an upcoming auction? The idea is that you would try to buy it, so it should be within your budget. Also, the coin must exist, so the TDN will need to rethink his choice of a rainbow toned MS68 78-cc trade dollar.

I would love to get my hands on a 1879-s rev of 78 rainbow toned dollar in 63-65 grade. I'm sure there would be some spirited bidding on this coinimage

  • I was told from a reliable source about a Lafayette dollar that is in an old NGC 67 holder that has the appearance of a perfect 80-S dollar from a mint bag. The coin was described to me as flawless with blazing white luster that would be at least an MS68 today. Would love to see this coin come up for auction. Don't know if I would be the high bidder, but it would be fun chasing the price up to a new record for a commem.

These coins should exist, but they have not yet appeared:
1796 no stars, small eagle, quarter eagle
    1853-O NA quarter
    1870-S quarter
    1873-S NA half
    1873-S Seated dollar
    the other 1849 $20
There are probably more, but these would make an interesting start. Mind you now, I am not a collector, but I believe that I could represent collectors of these series.

No way I could afford it, but the ex. Epstein 1872 MS66RD Indian cent is a coin I'd love a glimpse at. I was a bit disappointed with the 1899 MS68RD ex. Epstein example, but I expected the perfect IH in that date. If anyone has a lead on who owns the 1872 let them know my bags are packed to image it tomorrow!

I've also been very curious to see the 1909 PCGS PR69RD IH that got framed to wall of the PCGS grading room due to a fingerprint. I hear its part of their grading set now -- can we see it at some future show David?

1872-S Seated Quarter in XF-AU problem free example. I also love Julian's quarter ideas...but they might be bit out of my budget range.

    for me

these coins are really uncommon coins but the demand is just not there nor do many realize how really REALLY uncommon they are just super unknown underapprecaited coins

    as follows

1901 barber quarter a true ms65 gem coin with incredible cartwheel lustre and monster deep toned

the so called common 1863 cent in superb gem ms 66/67 with for the most part its original patina as struck and with absolutely no problems carbon spots no planchet alloy streaks no striations maybe with an original slightly mellowed skin and totally unmolested then this 1863 is as rare as or moreso than any other date in the copper nickel series 1860 to 1864 in superb gem mintstate

one of the hardest coins to get in ultra deep cameo proof in the three cent nickel series in gem 65
the 1871 a coin that is a gem proof 65 a real gem proof with really heavy ultra cameo obverse and at least a solid ultra reverse now that would be a one of a kind coin!

a totally original white super lusterous close tonear miss gem or gem ms 1874 trade dollar

a monster deep cameo liberty nickel never dipped in gem superb gem proof the ulitmate would be a near miss 68/solid 68 coin beyond rare! any date after 1900 NOT THE 1909!! now thats a spicy meatball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a 1937 proof set all superb gem with the origina mint cello toning and a set that has been together since it left the mint in the spring of 1937 TOTALLY ORIGINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i guess the list goes on and on

but as per the above i could never ever afford to buy any of these coins in the current market not even close!

    sincerely michael

A truly superb MS66/67 "common" date seated quarter in the 1841 to 1849 date range. I can honestly say I have not personally seen a superb gem early date quarter that knocked my socks off in over 25 years. OK, one exception, the Knoxville 1838 nd quarter in NGC MS68 but that's not one of the "common" 1841-1849 dates. image

    Easy question to answer --

A 1902 Micro-O Morgan dollar that is sufficiently problem-free to go into an XF-PCGS holder.

But's that's not going to happen, so I'd also be thrilled if a VF were to go up for auction.
