Canadian registry

Hi, I'm a new user of this site, and was wondering what everyone's opinion was about the Canadian PCGS Set Registry. Is it a success that there are 158 sets after only about 12 weeks or so, or is it a failure that there are only 158 sets after this length of time. Any thoughts?

As more sets get registered, there will be more interest, which will spawn more sets. It will just take some time.
Maybe a PCGS presence in Canada might speed things up? It's painful for us Canadians to have coins cross the border twice for grading.

I agree with Paul.PCGS needs to cross the border and present their presence. Many people want to submit their coins but need assistance.

I have one Canadian coin; I might look for a place to register it so I can get on a list for a short time

Maybe a result of the summer slowdown? Time will tell.

<< <i>Things seem to have slowed considerably on the Canadian Registry front. In 6 months, a little more than 100 new sets have been registered. And, it seems like there is little competition, except for some of the Silver Dollar sets.

It seems to me that there are a few competitive series, including the 1¢, 5¢, and $1 series, but in totality I am a bit surprised that there are so few sets registered....

I've been buying coins-- I just haven't been getting them slabbed.

Perhaps EVERYONE can send an e mail to dh@collectors.com to have PCGS attend Canadian coin shows and the New York World Show to get submissions
The Canadian set registry is far from dead.Check my sets out

I think that is a great idea. I have a whole bunch of coins I would like to submit....

<< <i>Good suggestions on the QA Forum docday. It would be great to see the Norweb, Pittman and complete Belzberg sets. >>
Thanks. I got to thinking about it after reading a number of posts about how the Eliasberg set was being added.
<< <i>On the topic of Canadian coins, has anyone heard anything regarding the Chet Krause collection which is going on sale soon? >>
I've only heard that it's going to be auctioned.
I wonder how many 1968 cents he had in MS-68.

These are exactly the sorts of things that would be nice to know. I am amazed that no one seems to have any information.

We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
Ya, me too. Doesn't seem to be too much competition in the specimen sets, but they sure are nice coins.

<< <i>There are a lot of Chet Krause's coins in the upcoming Heritage New York Signature Sale on January 12. Too bad I'm not flush with cash right now. >>
I'm surprised by the lack of advertising for this sale - compare that to the Belzberg collection and its advance hype....

<< <i>The Belzberg collection had the advantage of competeness. If the Chet Krause collection were a compete set of Canadian and Maritime Provinces coins, I'm sure it would have been promoted much more. Did you notice that the Belzberg collection has become a standard measure for Heritage? I saw a number of comments like, "Even the Belzberg example was only MS-63" when describing Krause's MS-64's. >>
Its funny how that works. I noticed the same in Walsh's catalogues referring to both the Mason, Pittman, Norweb and Belzberg collections...but I guess if you've got a chance to get a better coin than any of them, you had better bid high, eh?
Chet Krause has a 1936 DOT Cent and it is slabbed as a

Indeed. But I imagine my wife would rather have new dual-paned windows than a new "better than Belzberg" mint state coin.

Chet Krause was at the sale. There were manyCanadians at the sale.Sid Belzberg was there.
Some of the copper pieces went very strong. The 1924 George V graded as a ms 65 r/b with 75% brown and 25% red went at $1207
The 1936 dot cent went for $207,000 USD
The specimen 1924 nickel Specimen sold very cheap and it was much better than the grade stated on the holder.I bought the 1936 nickel at almost $1,000 as an ms 65 but thought the grade was closer to ms 67.
All in All it was a FUN sale. There were many opportunities to buy great Canadian coins.

Did you notice whether Sid bought any Canadian coins?
<< <i>I wonder how well the Torex auction went. I did not see a lot of better coins available. >>
I watched the auction on the ebay live auctions. It seemed to me that the prices were fairly strong, especially for red cents. I was surprised that there were so many uncertified coins... I took my chances on a couple, and will see how Walsh's estimated grades compare.
I only have a couple of sets and it looks like the few other sets are still plodding along. I did notice that you still can't add 2003 coins whereas the 2004's are already open in the LightSide sets.
I have seen a lot of neat coins in older slabs coming out on the market. Voyageur Silver Dalliers in PCGS green holders. I figure demand must be getting stronger. It could have to do with the up swing in the metal?
Maybe everyone is holding back until June? Then WAM! post a number one set just before the awards!

Although it isn't really "Canadian", I'm thinking of working on my Newfie 5 cent set.

PCGS went to the CNA in Ontario last week. What surprised me was they weren't taking submissions. There were two pretty PCGS girls trying to take business away from Brian at ICCS.
I wonder how they did ?
