OKAY, GUYS, IS THIS COMMON? OBVERSE ADDED.

I have a 1971 proof set with a Roosevelt that has such an extreme dieclash that the entire profile is imprinted on the reverse. On the obverse PL from PLURIBUS is REALLY heavily imprinted in the field in front of Roosevelt's forehead. It also looks like he's wearing spectacles from the leaves imprinted on the bridge of his nose. Is this a common occurance for this year? Sorry guys. I tried, but just can't seem to get a good pic without proper lighting. However, you can still make out the PL in front of his forehead and the "spectacles" the imprinted leaves make on the bridge of his nose.

It doesn't look common to me. I think you may be pleasantly surprised by the interest this piece may bring.

  • Gilbert,

Thanks. I'll try and get some pix of the obverse, and a better one of the reverse tomorrow in the daylight. I know that most dieclashed coins don't bring that much of a premium. I've never seen a proof coin like this, however.

I don't know if its common, but it might be worth submitting to one of the services to see what they think.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

  • Thanks guys. I appreciate all the input. I paid $5.00 for the set. Got him to knock a dollar off the price because it had a defective coin.

JUST KIDDING!!! (Not about the price, though.)

That's a mighty severe clash - especially for a proof coin. Very cool.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • I like it alot,that's one error type I hav'nt collected yet.

VERY unusual to have a clash like this on any proof coin. Quality control on proofs usually precludes this. You have a very nice item. I would think it would carry a nice premium.
  • Hopefully, if I can get my butt to work, and get my chores done I'll be able to post some better pix later today. These boards have been keeping me from doing what needs to be done. Bad boards. BAD, BAD BOARDS!!!

Hey JC - that looks really neat - and unusual for a proof set since they're inspected so carefully for errors!!

  • TwoDogs,
Very cool catch! Looks very good, and is easily identifiable. Nice going!

P.S. I enjoyed the pictures on your site.

Nice to see you posting around these parts again. I've missed your commentary and wit.
  • Thanks Ursabear. It's good to be back, at least on some weekends. I really missed being to read all the threads out there in the boonies. Small price to pay for the adventure, however.
