WHICH COULD YOU DO WITHOUT CARDSHOP?OR EBAY?

Comments

  • SO YOU WOULD RATEHR HAVE CARD SHOP THAN EBAY?
  • its depends, i think ebay is somewhat ruining the hobby, along with beckett, so in that respect id chose a shop over ebay, but then there is some rip-off aholes that run shops, so id chose ebay over them
  • ebay is making me spend way tooooo much!!
  • cardshop... Ebay is the biggest Market in the WORLD.... You need something then 9 times out of 10 its on ebay.

ALL GOOD ROOKIE CARDS FROM ANY SPORT!!!

  • Can't really say. Ebay is more than just cards. I use ebay for singles and card shops for supplies and publications. I also prefer to buy autographs from a local card shop than buying from Ebay. So, for singles, I can do without card shops, but for autographs and supplies, I could do without ebay.
  • I'd have to say Oldschool cardshops. These are a dying breed and they still refuse to admit that graded cards are here to stay and are profitable. They rather have a raw card in their case that is 8 material and claim it is Gem Mint. These are the guys that we can do without. I think shops and ebay both serve their purpose and I actually don't mind spending alittle more to purchase an item at a local card shop. But when they are asking for x5 what I could get an item on ebay for, well that another story.

Best line I heard a month back from a cardshop owner "Ebay is full of scammers, they won't send you your item, just keep your money"

Funny thing was, I found their user name on ebay trying to sell cards with a very high opening bids...of course they didn't sell...

    I could do w/o a cardshop (I don't have one anyway image)
  • personally i don't mind spending a few more bucks on a card at my local card shop... i have been going there forever and he gives great deals and i trust him. but if eh doesnt have something or i find a crazy good deal on ebay ill bite. but overall i can live without ebay, because if ti wasnt for my locas card shop i wouldnt be in the hobby at all
  • Most guys who run cardshops are ripoffs. The guy who runs my local cardshop (a very crappy card shop) charges $70-80 for boxes i can buy on eBay for $30. And i have yet to find a shop that sells decent singles for less than 70% book. With eBay, you can always find almost any card, and usually at a good price. I did find a few gems at my local shop in the commons boxes, but that's just cause the guy was an idiot. In his common box i found a SP Authentic Tracy McGrady RC and a E-X Peerless Price Essential Credentials RC #/21, bought them for $.10 each, he thought the Price was a regular RC and threw the T-Mac in the common bin after he didn't have a very good first year....

I'd keep eBay anyday, but then again i don't know what it feels like to have a really good cardshop, as i have never been to one

  • yeah there are some gold cards in the card shops i think i may do some searching
  • Have you ever paid for something you didn't get at a card shop? I like ebay but you never know if you'll get what's yours. I could live without both as I rarely go to the shop (they are, for the most part, too expensive) I check ebay everyday but don't buy anything too often.
Always looking for pre 1990 rookies and stars, pre 1970 baseball (all) and HOF game used.

    tradelist
  • I'd say I could live without the card shop, but then again the shop I go to is the only reliable source of Topps/Bowman packs (for the NPN promotions) that I have; few dedicated online stores will even sell packs (and even fewer, essentially none, have a comprehensive selection). If I could find a consistent, complete source of Topps/Bowman packs online I could swear off shops forever (I think... sometimes they're good for a quick fix image )

Yes, I collect shiny modern crap image

All your Shaq are belong to me image
  • yeah i need that fix every noe and then myself
  • I have just never seen a cardshop with a good selection and variety of high-end singles. If i had seen one i'd practically live there. I do like the atmosphere of the shop, and being able to see the card first hand before purchasing, and of course it's nice to not have to pay ridiculous shipping fees for the buyer to just take his sweet-ass time to ship.

well considering the shops i have here... i'd kick em in the azz as they leave...

    the only shops here suck!

one sells 2002 Playoff Absolute for $200... can get on ebay for about $125...
the other sells... a box of 1994 TSC for $40... can get it on ebay prolly for around $10

    so i'd keep ebay
  • I love card shops. I go in thee and look at all the stuff marked at 250% of book and just chuckle. I buy everything either at shows, where those card shop guys drastically lower their prices, or at discount joints like KMart and Target, even ToysRUs. I love those pack attack packs at Target and those red boxes with 8 packs for $10. I've had pretty good luck with those. Card shops are like museums to me. I can look at a bunch of stuff I can't or won't afford. There was a place in Tyson's Corner, VA that specialized in autographed 8 X 10s at silly prices, like Tyra Banks for $159 or some random player for $129. I noticed last time I went to that mall they were gone. Only sign of them was the baseball bat door handles. All that stuff probably went on ebay. I just bought the Barry Halper collection Southeby's catalog at Borders for ten bucks and I bought a video on it for $5 a few years ago. Thats as close as I'll get to truly fabulous stuff until I go to Cooperstown or Springfield. Well the Babe Ruth museum is in Baltimore. I did know a few card shop owners who were reasonable. Of course they folded up years ago. I guess I'm just cynical. Ebay... the worlds flea market.
  • Dont get me wrong... I would love to own my own shop and probably will when I retire.. (hopefully when I turn 30 image lol ) But I go to my local card shop and blow Jerry (owner) crap all the time about his High prices, his singles suck, and he charges BV. We get along good and I rarely Buy anything there but I see why he does it... Most card shops make there money from WAX and in this case thats the only place he makes his money. He will sell a single every now and then but most shop owners dont care as long as the Wax Buyers are coming in, they are good. Also one of the few places to go and talk about sports and stuff. I would still choose ebay though... Its like a Big Shop at Home only with Decent stuff image

  • We could do without the 2 cards shops in our town. Both of them are
run by total ripoffs when it comes to singles, pack or boxes. The only thing we ever get there is supplies.

Ebay has been helpful to us when completing our football or hockey sets. Also, ebay is a great source for those wanted Rookie cards or #ed inserts of star players we like to collect.Ebay is a keeper !

In our travels, we have found a few really cool card shops. The guys running them were fair with pricing & were helpful & courteous when waiting on us.One was in Lawrence, Kansas & the other in Kitty Hawk, NC.There are some good shops out there; just have to search to find them.
