I'm going to try to cross NGC-70 coins to PCGS-70

I know this is going to be a waste of time and money but I'm going to try it anyway. The dealer I work part time for has about 100 2003 1/4 oz gold eagles graded MS-70 by NGC. I'm going to go through them and pick 10 coins and send them in to PCGS for cross over. My guess is that they will not cross any over but I'm going to try anyway. A fool and his money is soon parted and today I feel like I could be the poster boy. Will let everyone know in a month what happens.

I woulddefinitely save your money. When Rick Montgomery was around, he stated that PCGS has a policy (written or unwritten I don't remember) of not crossing 70's. His reasoning was that the entire coin including the edges and rims can't be inspected while the coin is in the holder so it has no chance of being crossed. You might want to call and ask before giving it a try.

I tried it with some NGC PR70UCAM Lincolns went 0/3. Save your money.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

You could cross at any grade, at least then they would have a chance because they woud be cracked out, but the they would coome back 68s & 69s

And why do you have this urge to throw money away?

Just give them to David Hall at the next show where he's at the PCGS booth.. he can take them into the grading room himself and tell the graders "See what you can do"..

Try sending your very best of the ten to satisfy yourself before you get buried in grading fees. BTW, in today's mail was the DHRC offer of the 4 coin 2003 AGE PCGS MS70 set for $7,950. This could be worth your while.

After thinking more about it I don't think I'm going to do it. It makes sense that PCGS wouldn't cross a 70 coin since they can't see the whole coin so what's the point of trying.

DHRC has some PCGS MS70 2003 gold eagles, all denominations available if you want one in a PCGS holder. I think they are selling the whole set of four eagles for like, eight grand....

    Jay,

PCGS definitely won't cross a 70 by any service. That has been stated somewhere in the past. Only way to attempt it would be to crack them first, and then you risk them still coming back a grade less. Best to keep them in the NGC holders, since there is still a premium above the 69 grade, even if not as steep as the PCGS premium.
