Anybody taking advantage of the special

Just wondering if many of you are taking advantage of the current Set Registry special.

  • Not the current one, but hoping for one more to my likeing in the future. I can't afford to send in cards at $10.00 each only to have them come back as PSA 8s when they will then sell for only $8.00.
I need that 69 Bench ASimage

  • I'm sure that all of the 70's collectors (where probably the greatest number of submissions of raw commons is nowadays) are jumping all over this deal image

I'd definitely be curious to see if PSA would be willing to share participation/submission figures on the various "Set Registry Specials".

As for the one currently in place, I just don't see a lot of value there - for PSA as well as the collector.
On some level, PSA has to understand that by running a "pre-1972" special, it excludes most of the sets which have the greatest number of potential submissions.

    And. . .

Sure they promise 10 business day turnaround. . .but the last time they ran the 1970s set registry special ($5/card), I got all three of my invoices back before 10 business days anyway. So this too seems to be of little or no value.

PSA needs to remember that it's only a "Special" if people are willing to participate.

  • I Think we all have to remmeber that what makes a "special" special is that it is not offered all the time... If it is offered to frequently then it becomes the norm. The idea of running a special price or promotion is to increase volume and create excitement... Hopefully (for PSA 's sake) they do enough volume to make up for the price cut....

Jeff> I would agree. . .but I don't see how these dud "specials" are increasing volume or creating excitement.

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.

I completely agree, unless your sending in big names, $10 isn't a profitable venture like it used to be. It's hard enough to make the $5 deal worth it for commons, but definately not $10 for commons (70's stuff). I have about 1000 cards that I'm waiting for the next $5 special. Without it, 950 of them aren't worth grading and I won't grade them without the special. I think PSA definately does make it up in quantity when they run the $5 deal.

I would be happy if PSA had a "special" that would allow me to send in post-1974 cards at the $6 rate with a minimum of 25 or 50 cards. If they would, I would have cards headed to Newport Beach tomorrow morning.
Looking for 1975, 1978, and 1979 Topps Baseball in high end PSA 9 and PSA 10.

I may take "advantage" of the newest special for a few star cards.

If I understand correctly, one may submit a card of any value with the 10 day tunaround. There is also no minimum amount of cards to send. This seems pretty reasonable to me. I would have asked on the Q & A board/forum, but I guess it no longer exists for cards.

I just submitted a bunch of 1969 Basketball Tall boys using the current special. 10 day guarantee for tall boys is great. Nornmally they take forever to grade these.

Not me. 98% of my grading dollar goes towards my 71 Topps set. I already have all of the star cards in graded condition (with the exception of two) so I just send in commons. No way will I send in 71 Commons at 10 bucks a pop. PSA, please post a special where I can get these graded for 5 bucks a pop!
  • I normally would not pay 10 or 20 dollars to have one card graded, but I was able to buy a very nice raw card of 1961 Topps Jim Gentile and it is the last card I need to have a complete set. It should be a 7 or a good chance at an 8. I can't wait to punch in that last number in my set and see that 100% number pop up.
