$6 hot dogs CAN be a good thing

Being new to this group, I READ almost every post with enthusiasm..... Ive always felt that the greatest thing about this hobby was how much you could learn both about coins and about people....... It seems to me that the US Mint almost destroyed the commem program a few years ago by honoring almost any left handed ex-librarian with penicillin resistant toe fungus it could find....... Kudos to the State Quarter program for stimulating interest in a hobby amongst entry level collectors..... For years I went to shows and through a little observation I figured the average age of the "collector" at 45+ years of age.... These days, it's a little younger...... at least the percentage of collectors dragging around their oxygen bottles has seemed to drop !!!!! Now to the real reason for the post..... For years, Ive listened to collectors and dealers both say "buy the coin. not the holder"...... PLEASE PLEASE listen to yourselves...... you're all in a lather about one services quality, one services guaranty, one services "tightening"....... Now I wholeheartedly agree on using services when it comes to a question of authenticity, but BUY THE COIN, NOT THE HOLDER...... The quest for higher and higher #s seems to me a self serving, capitalistic concocted, ego feedbag for people who cant admit that they're collecting to impress someone other than themselves...... A coin is only worth what someone will pay for it, BUT.. for me, the joy of collecting doesnt come from the "balance sheet"...... it comes from holding a coin in my hand, and remembering the weekend I picked that up in Milwaukee...... the innumerable $6 hot dogs Ive eaten with my young son at shows thru the years, the Sunday mornings at VFW posts all over the place....... There is MORE to collecting than getting grade results !!!!!!

<< <i>Point taken..... Higher grades DO equal higher profits...... but the COIN in question is exactly the same as it was the day it was cracked out and resubmitted...... So in reality, what you ARE buying is the SLAB and NOT the coin !!!! (or should I say "selling")...... Maybe this is why my area of interest runs towards Seated varieties rather than FINEST KNOWN SACS !!!! >>
...........that is what i have always beleive in , and said........to many are buying the numbers and not the coin, so i agree........got any mustard?
