Whats the point of building a complete registry set if you won't even post the pics ?

If anyone takes the time to complete a registry set of a certain series isn't part of the joy of accomplisment pics of your completed set ?

I understand for security reasons why some forum members wouldn't reveal email addresses or leave there pm functions off, but why would someone complete a finest known set of barber halves and not post the pictures of them? Maybe the Doc. is afraid i'll druel all over them !!!
The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.

Its a great idea, but some of us do not have the equipment , ability or desire to

go thru all of that for pictures. Someday, I will get someone to do it for me like R&I coins

Since I purchased almost all of my galf dollar Kennedy Proofs from them.

I have an interesting looking set of toned Morgans so I have pictures.
I have other sets of MS & PF 69 Moderns and they all look alike so it's not worth the trouble.

If you buy your coins from one of the big auction houses, you can save their auction picture, for your own use.

I agree, one point should be deducted if there ain't an image!

  • Registry sets w/o pix are pointless. Even worse are sets which are hidden all together. Why bother?

I hear this so often but I don't get it. Targets for theft are NOT picked at random. I would guess 99.99% of coin thefts are indside jobs. I do understand people who don't reveal information because some dealers insist on spamming and annoying people and can't take no for an answer.

Maybe some people don't want to show the world how ugly their "gems" really are.

After all, would you want to show the world your $39,100 1963 PR70 cent had carbon and white spots on it? Much better to let the public keep guessing.

Greg's got a good point, but I imagine it's too late regarding that 1963PR70DCAM. The word (and photos) are out there already.

-I've spent the last week posting PHOTOS on each of my half dozen or so Registries. It really is a project and I can't blame those who put it off for another day.

Certainly there are many Registries though that would be enhanced with photos.
I'd love to see the number one sets of Roosevelts and Kennedies and even Ikes in Mint State.

I figure everybody is on (and off) the Registries for their own reasons, and that the same individual differences apply as to whether they post pictures.

I will personally say, though, that the locked sets are a complete waste of time, and the ones without pictures are a great disappointment. I really would like to see other people's gems and findings--like the half dime michael just posted here today!

Another person's registry set is none of your business.

It takes a lot of time to take the photos and list them... My Mercury set has photos... I think I still need to post a photo of my 17-D. But it takes time and effort. I prefer to have the phots shown, and I will get to it at some point. I think it should be the option of the person listing their set. I just think if people don't show photos, they may not have a digital camera, or they don't have the time, or they just want to list their coins without photos, or the quality of their coins is low, or, or, or... In any case, it is up to them, and some not only don't show photos, they hide their set.

That certainly made a lot of sense.

I have pics posted of every coin in every set. But, it's something I enjoy and I have access to the technology to do so. It's also a lot of work, and I can certainly understand why many don't do it. As Bear said, not everyone has the equipment or knowledge.

    Wow. What a grouch.

That's like entering a beauty contest, and saying what I look like is none of your business! image
  • Right you are David, I'm a swimsuit model but I'm not going to take of my shorts. (I'm not a model i can tell you this right now) image

I agree! But the registry concept is designed to show off. Hiding defeats the purpose.

Sort of like going to the Dr. and refusing to remove your clothes.

Some of us still haven't figured out how to add images to existing sets.image
  • I've added images, not because I really give a rat's behind what someone thinks about my coins but it's a way I can look at my collection whenever I want. It's really a pain to go to the bank to look at my coins. If someone else looks at my set and thinks its cool, that's great. I collect what I like and I enjoy the heck out of my collection. Someone else may think that my Registry set is garbage; I could care less. Another person on the other hand may think it's the coolest thing they've ever seen.
  • I'd love to add photos but the only problem is that CU has set a 100k maximum file size for the photo. I not going to take the time to add some poor resolution photo. I just choose to keep my good quality pictures offline.

I have pictures of all my coins posted but I can assure you - it's time consuming. Besides, ugly coins can be made to look beautiful so that, even if everone did post their coins, there would be difficulty making accurate comparisons and conclusions re: quality. The show down is still the only way to know who has the best collection.

The pics I would really like to post are the beautiful NGC coins that PCGS refuses to cross!!!image
