NGC submission results...wild!! and finest known..at least today...lol

i have shown on these boards some photos/scans of some coins out of an eastern collection
i picked out three coins from this collection to go to ngc which i thought were all ms68 and exceptionally toned so i was looking for all ms68 and *star from ngc well i got the results today!
1) to me ALL ms68 coins so looking for ms 68 on all!
2) and all were to me exceptional toned! looking for * star designation
i would say monster but it is sooooooo
overused and not true on many cases
well the three coin submission i just found out today the results!
one seated pre civil war seated coin ngc ms68 *star
i totally agree solid for the grade and monster toning!
one seated dime ngc ms67 * star i think 67.9/68 and monster toned better high end in the holder so i agree
one boone commem ngc ms67 * star i think 67.9/68 and monster toned better high end in the holder so i agree
there coins are wild in person!! they would make a grown man cry! in my opinion.......lol
also these coins look fantastic in any light and any way you look at them!! all have booming lustre through the toning !!

As we have come to expect from you.......BEAUTIFUL MONSTER COINS!
You may not use it (MONSTER) but I will!
My favorite is the Half Dime also!

I don't know who would guess they were going to submit three coins and receive three stars, and then actuall get 3 of 3 stars!!!! Way to go.
I like them all. It would be very hard to pick.
So, here's a question: let's say Michael was a registry player and that coin was the capstone of his half dime collection. After you all have seen the coin, there can be no doubt that it is the absolute finest 1860 half dime in existance. Which leaves Michael with a choice to make:
Should he have passed on the finest coin because it was in an NGC holder?
Should he downgrade the coin to a PCGS MS67 and cost himself thousands?
Should he also buy a PCGS lower graded duplicate to list on the PCGS Set Registry?
Should he only participate at the NGC Registry because that's the holder coins like this end up in?
Dealers have called me picky, impossible to deal with, and "living in dreamland."...Well, I'd buy that that Boone...COOL COIN!!!!

TDN, In response to your inquiry,
I can't say that is the finest half-dime in existance; it is the finest I have seen.
Since the coin is in an NGC67 holder, how is a PCGS67 a downgrade and loss of money?
Again, I don't see why it is incumbent on anyone to be in the PCGS Registry if they don't like the prereqs. And, yes, I am not a registry participant, but thought it may be okay to respond.
::Sheesh::
I might just as well pack up my digital camera now! We've seen the BEST of the BEST right here!
Michael- you are a true Numismatist.
If you ran for the ANA I'd vote for you in a heart beat.

For TDN's question, I say enjoy the coin right where it is. If pcgs doesn't want to include ngc coins into their registry, that's their loss. Those are some amazing examples to disqualify from a registry because of the plastic they are in.

Since the coin is in an NGC67 holder, how is a PCGS67 a downgrade and loss of money?
Gilbert: The half dime is MS68*, not MS67. It is without a doubt the finest 1860 half dime in existance. To pass on the coin because of the holder is a numismatic sin. To not allow superb coins such as that half dime to participate in the PCGS Set Registry is a major drawback and one that will eventually drive away top classic collectors.
There is nothing like seeing these gems up close in hand and wigglng them around in the light to really appreciate their colors.
luck on the crossing to PCGS. Bear

Hopefully the slab keeps it from toning anymore!
How so? PCGS doesn't readily cross over MS68 specimens, and they certainly don't hand out * designators. Do you think a PCGS MS67 is worth more than NGC MS68* for that Seated half dime? Put down that Kool-Aid before you drown in it! Or, better yet, stick with the stuff that you know and leave the Seated material to those who are much more knowledgeable.
Finally, Michael, since someone already put up those gorgeous pictures, I won't bother to do so. If you have problems in the future, I'd be happy to help. BTW, great coins! You da man!!!

As far as Tradedollarnut's interesting question: possessing that half dime is a pennacle in itself, beyond the scope of the Registry Set issue. It's like arguing about Pepsi v Coke at a wine tasting.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
LOL! That comment has resonance with me...

I am not much more Knowlageable but I certainly agree with you.
How could any think that PCGS would downgrade a 68* to a 67.
On the contrary,PCGS rewards outstanding eye apeal.
EVP again I believe you are 100% on this one.
I have to agree with Carl's comment - picking three coins expecting NGC stars, and actually getting all three is just amazing to me.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
hi there tradedollarnut!! wonderful comments!! and you are correct about it being the finest! and you are right it is probably the finest toned eye appealling 1860 bar none and maybe one of the best if not the best in terms of toned eye appealling of any legend obv. halfdimes bar none!!
a few major dealers and former graders at the major services thast have seen this coin in person told me that this was the finest toned seated halfdime legend obv they have ever seen! and one dealer has seen at the time all the pcgs ms 68 coins all four at the time i believe and i was told this coin is way nicer
as the pcgs coins were all white i thinki and dipped?!! i believe i have this on good authority but do not quote me but anyway this dealer told me this was nicer than all the other 4 ms68 pcgs legend obv halfdimes! as this dealer has seen them all closely sight seen!
for me this coin has to be seen in person sight seen! to be fully understood! and appreciated
and with someone that understands seated mintstate coins overall
the color
the prooflike surfaces
strike
cameo appearance
and technical grade
all summed up together is a nice 68 coin everything combined
you have to look at this coin
overall sight seen and with some rudeamentory knowledge of seated coins i amsure one point out of 5 or 6 critera is slightly above average but the other points are exceptional doesmnot preclude the 68 grade! so for me this coin is a 68
i mean if you have the greatest basketball player and he is the best overall with the exception of maybe one small part where he is just above average does that make him less than the best? probably not....
thanks EVP! you hit the nail on the head!!! as usual! and i most probably will take you up to help me reduce some photos evp thanks!!!!
bigd5 you are absolutely right! but again these need to be sight seen in person! i agree with you bigd5 enjoy the coin not the holder if the coinis all there and simply AMAZING WHO CARES WAHT HOLDER IF ANY IT IS IN!!!! the coin has been around before the civil war and will likely be around long after the services are gone! darin has advised me on coins before and he has a good eye and if anyone on here is looking for some advice on toned coins i highly recommend darin to them!
now on the boone this coin is totally different in person the rainbow is not dark at all and much lighter and is totally vibrant but it was extremely hard to get this coin in a good scan . again the coin is much better and totally different on the plus side in person! the rainbow looks just like a rainbow you see after a rainstorm in the daylight but it is hard to see this in this scan not good or bad just all we have on here!
klectorkid i will trade you your halfdime for this 1860 half sister but you have to agree to be an indentured servant for 12 years! and after the 12 years are up you can walk away with the coin! i am sure i could get the owner of this coin in the eastern collection to do this for you!! if you are under the age of 18 you will nedd your guardians permission though! and you would be treated fairly but there would be lots of work for you to do night and day for the next 12 years!
thanks kranky and carl!! it is something to get three star coins in a row!!!!!! you both have great eyes and as usual always have something positive to say on here! and if you saw the boone in person you would be more impressed but the photo of the boone barely does justice to the coin i hope to meet you kranky and carl and we could do lunch and talk coins for hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but if you think about it this eastern collector doing this coin thing 24/7 for 35 years! and it took this person a long time to get where they are in terms of eye and knowledge
and then
and the coins from this eastern collection that i sent into ngc these coins it took years and years of hard work and looking and were acquired one at a time year after year after this eastern collector selecting them from literatilly thousands of coins! so it seems like they got this fast three in a row *** but it took 35 years to get to this point .......... a long time
kind of like working on a medical degree for over 12 years and then finally getting your first practise and making a living a good living for the first year but it took you masny years before that of not making anything and just working hard to get there in the first place
i guess it will take this collector maybe not as long as the above but maybe another 12 years to get three more like these!
hi there bear thanks! i am not a crosser this eastern collector always buys the coin not the holder!
and wallstreetman what can i say?? ....lol your reputation always precedes you on here!...lol and i must admit you always have something helpful and positive to add to any of your posts to other threads............lol

sincerely michael
thanks jeremy also please use his web site design skills you will not be disappointed
zenny you are astute and have a good eye!!! some very astute early commem collectoeds specializing have looked at the boone and called it the finest in toning or one of the finest!!!!
dheath and dog97! you both are very good collectors and it is high prasie coming from you both! thanks
ajfox and rkfish !! you both have very good eyes!!
beartracks and gilbert thanks you both from waht i have seen on here you know your coins and are always pleasent to deal with on the forums and always have something good to say!
rainbowroosies you hit the nail on the head never give up ,looking only for coins that are the best of the best to you accept no others even if you have to pass on some for years! many dealers if they only sold coins like these i posted on here they would be out of business in 48 hours or less!! raee to find
they have to sell and move product and tha tis okie it is a business but always hold out for the best that way if thgose dealers get any great coins then they may send one or two to you as all the other okie coins go to those that will always accrpt them!! never lower your standards always only buy the nonster best if not pass!!
thanks all it is a real plsasure to hear and learn from you all i love it on here!!!!!!!!!
and thanks pcgs for these boards! i mean i am sure there are positive and not so positive with everythnig but over all pcgs.com i think it has been more positive with your company here oveall!!!!!!
sincerely michael
we are all human but io hope we can all at least try to get along!! as i love it on here and want more to join! and hope evetyone can learn more and then they can make better decsisons on their coin thing!!
I just saw this thread and about dropped over when I saw the pictures!
Some truly fantastic coins. I too have to side with many of the others in saying that the half dime would be my choice out of those three coins. Stunning coin and my opinion would not change even in an ANACS holder. I agree completely with Darrin. If PCGS doesn't want this superior NGC coin in their registry (without silly games of submitting for a sticker like is being debated on the registry board), then that is 100% their loss!!!! Piss on them!
Great coin(s)!!!!!!!!!!!
Having viewed these coins at one time or another - I will say that the Seated Half Dime might be the prettiest of its type that I've seen, the Boone is among the prettiest Boone's I've laid eyes on and the Seated Dime is among the most appealing MS67's I've seen. Other than that, the coins don't do much for me.
and in all lights and anyway you look at it it looks like these is a light inside the coin
thiscoin is like your 56 flyer in close to me grade with fantastic eye appeal for a 56 flyer in ms!
it is a once in a lifetime coin well maybe twice in a lifetime!!!!!!!!........lol
you just do not see coins like these!
my all time fav is also the halfdime with the boone and dime a very close second well i guess i like them all!!!!!!!!!!!
also kind of like that chain you never ever see a chain like you got with clean surfaces and light colored and original and just honest wear with exceptional eye appeal
i like that coin much more than all the fine to xf problem coinbs with the porosity edge bumps looked like someone took a slaege hammer to those find and better coins or retooling or scratches or terribly recoloured or huge planchet defects!!!!!!!
overall your chain is exceptional in eye appeal and let me tell you sometyhngi goose execeptional/monster eye appeal wins over everythnig else when it comes to coins!
sincerely michael
It is hard to pick a favorite out of those three, but I think that half dime would be mine.
