Where to find Blue Jeffs

I've been looking everywhere for about 2 months now and have yet to even see a blue toned jefferson in person. I WANT ONE!! I have searched on ebay, teletrade, local coin shows, and coin shops (mint and proof sets) and have come up with nothing. Where is the best place to find these without paying to much of a premium?

Russ seems to score em all the time in 64 Proof sets, one of my friends bought a 64 Proof set for the AH Kennedy and low and behold, it also had a Blue Jeffy in it!

I find that they are very scarce. If all else fails, you can alway raid Russ's cabinet.image

I would have never guessed that Russ would slap that pic in my faceimage

I have looked in numerous proof sets in the closest thing I have come to is the nice frosty haze around the edges...nothing blue and I don't think that's its very fair!! Guess I'll just have to keep trying...for the fun of the game

Sorry, epruyne, would you have preferred this one?image

    Or, perhaps this one?

Actually, I don't own any of them anymore; sold them all. Some are residing in NGC slabs now.image

If people are willing to pay more for them, they will become plentiful.

WOW, the last one might even convert the heppkitty. She may have to dump Frank for Jeff, although
    only temporarily.image

    Re Blue Jiffies.
Could they be a regional thing.Maybe in the warmer, more humid areas see these more often?
Or perhaps just an issue with handling and storage?
  • Cam40Cam40 Posts: 8,146
What about those blue business-strike Jiffies. Those look really sweet.

I found a dark red almost burgundy 59 Proof the other day that is at NGC as we speak. I hope they'll see the cam through the toning. I'll put up a pic when it comes home.

    Thats a tequila sunrise Jeff.image

Don- I hope NCS doesnt `burn` the coin too much.I think now they will kill the luster so as to make the `ugly toneing`disappear.
With a dark burgundy tone it sounds like its now/was part of the coin itself.Striping that is sure to strip the luster too.
    Good luck.image

    Cam40,

NGC, not NCS. You're right. They would kill it. I just wanted it in an airtite holder, not conserved. Thanks.....I like the Abe alot too. I don't know what magic happened between 60 and 64, but the proofs are sometimes vivid and unlike any other sets.

The `92 P looks like it spent alittle time in Atlantic City.
I see more and more thoroughly battered nickels, quarters, even halfs these days.Casino money.

The price was right on the 92P. Bought the 41 and a couple others and the shop owner threw the 92 in for nothing. Camera's sure bring out the flaws. image

I didn't know there were so many of you interested in blue jeffs... I have must have 30 or more as part of a large collection of proof sets. (I keep buying proof sets and can't sell a one!)

Is there a substancial premium for these coins?

  • Russ did very well selling some on eBay.

What is the official offer for raw proof Jeffersons 1960-1964? I think I am at least 3 times offer for nice colored ones image
  • They're definitely bringing a heavy premium now. Carl is right, 2.5 to 4x aASK for the nicer ones.

Windycity....send me all your toned ones. I'll replace the ones that are deeply discolored a vibrant shade of blue, purple, or pink with nice, shiny new ones, then ship them back (I'll even cover the return shipping!) image

Its a seller's market on toned Jeffs.....darn it!

So, if they're MS-67 or better, are they worth slabbing???

Rainbows rule: How about this 1954 PR-67 (I personally consider it a 68) with a rainbow crescent obverse. I only wish I had a decent camera to bring out the true beauty of this coin. The reverse has a gold center morphing to ice blue to rainbow rims...
