Morgan Collectors: What ever happened to the NFL Set?

I remember when PCGS displayed a beautiful set of Morgans at the major conventions- I saw it at Long Beach about seven or eight years ago, that had some Morgans titled "The NFL Set" on the inserts (or, something close to that). Each Morgan was outstanding and deserving to be displayed on this traveling exhibit.

What became of these Morgans? Are they forever broken up and placed in various sets? I don't recall even hearing of one coming up for auction. Does anyone know?

The set is broken up. At least I've seen several of these coins up for sale.

Two years ago at FUN Show, the NFL Set was auctioned by Heritage. The set belonged to board member Gregg Bingham aka monsterman.

Heritage has a letter from the former Houston Oilers owner framed outside of their showroom, regarding the sale...An interesting set.

Speaking of Monsterman, I haven't seen any posts from him in a long time. Did he give up on us?

I was surprised that Gregg wasn't at the Houston Money Show this past weekend until I realized he was probably attending the SuperBowl. Or at least that's the only explanation I could come up with for his absence.

Gregg played college ball at Purdue University and then played for the Oilers from something like 1973 thru 1985 or thereabouts.

He's an avid coin collector and now appears to be focusing on toned commemeratives. He's also got a number of other monster toned coins of other denominations.
