I would pass on any 1916-D on e-bay not in a slab. You don't see everything in a photo, and the 16-D is a coin with a high percentage of counterfits.

Copperhead: You need to RUN as fast as possible away from this auction....NOW. I don't know or CARE if it is real, there are PLENTY of authenticated 16-D's out there to purchase.

    All sales are final!
This coin is neither rare or difficult to obtain. Why in the world would anyone take a chance with 1500 bucks? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • "We took this coin out of a holder" Why? (Was it a 2x2 holder!?!) This auction looks really weird to me. I wouldn't touch it.

Cleaned? Or is is just the picture?

    Everything looks wrong here..IMHO

The picture is too small to get a good look at the mint mark and date. With no return I would pass on it.
  • Well,
This is the response I sort of expected. Not to much positive about buying this coin I suppose. I guess I was just wishing on a star. Eventually I will get a nice one. THANKS to all for the responses. This board makes the final decision. But, I will still watch it, I just won't buy it.
    THANKS AGAIN,

Can't get a good enough look at that mint mark to see if it meets the diagnostics for genuine coin. I agree with others who suggest the bait is not worth taking.

Take this advice to the bank. Exceedingly deceptive examples of 16D dimes exist. Never, ever, ever,
    buy a 16D uncertified.

The MUST BE "certified" thing is a bit much, but I would never consider buying a coin like that without first being able to view it in person. I would study the diagnostics for a genuine specimen, know the forms of counterfeits that are out there, and look at the coin with my own two eyes and make a judgement...it doesn't HAVE to be certified, but I would HAVE to look at the coin itself (not an image) before buying.

There are some coins that should never be bought raw. This is one of them.
  • Once again, the 16-d is a suckers deal unless in a third party case. PCGS is my preference. Why would you take out a $4000 coin out of a holder? Avoid this and buy a certified dime. Mercs Rule

  • Stay away from this one !
