Trouble waiting to happen

Here is one of those "illegal" eBay auctions. Someone is going to be pretty upset when they find out they bid on only one of 20 coins imageI have filed a report with eBay. Hopefully they will act before the auction endsimage

Wow! The guy gets his pick of those jewels for only $30+ But... the buyer has 121 feedbacks, you'd think he'd have the experience to read the whole thing. The seller has some interesting feedbacks, and has made some interesting responses to his negatives.

Yes but the seller listed it as a 1 item or group. The buyer may argue this.

    Reading is fundamental!!!

Even the first negative I read in his feedback could have been prevented if the buyer simply read and understood what he was buying.

The buyer probably received exactly what the seller wrote in his description. (unfortunately for buyer)image

The high bidder when i checked near $51 was "scumthumper" who has only 1 bid in the last few weeks and no feedback and sunglasses.

Is that person on this board and are the going to pay?

The translation of the German is as follows:

It never arrived - what a shame!

Sounds like a negative not a neutral.

Yep. Choice auctions are illegal. And it's a deceptive one at that. Although the last time I reported a choice auction to eBay, they didn't pull it. Must have been a powerseller! image

Ok, forgive a relative eBay newbie... But, what was wrong with that auction? Can someone explain it to me?

    Thanks!

    EVP,

He has 20 coins in the auction, and offers a "choice" of one of the coins for the winning bid. The buyer picks which one or two or three, etc., based on the winning bid. Besides being very deceptive, (creating the impression that the bid is for all 20), this type of auction is a violation of eBay policy because it is a way around auction fees.

Edit: Here's the key sentence in the auction:

<< <i>If you win this auction,You can buy one of this coins ,two or how many you want, even all 20.You are bidding for one of this 20 coins-your choice >>

  • EVillageProwlerEVillageProwler Posts: 5,856 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Oh, I see...

The violation is because he's only listing ONE auction while actually conducting up to 20 simultaneous auctions?

As a side question: does anyone here know who scumthumper actually is?

    Thanks, Russ!
