Using the WAG method, I come up with AU55.

AU50 if they are in a good mood, XF45 otherwise.

I will just apologize in advance for my comments...this 1895-o Morgan is not original and should be used as the "Poster Coin" for what is wrong in the hobby. The coin was either dipped or cleaned, stripped of the original surfaces to the point that it doesn't even look the least bit natural considering at best the coin should grade in the VF 30 to 35 range. This coin, even by PCGS standards, shows clear signs of visible cleaning, and should be a candidate for a bb.

Further, this coin illustrates the argument I advanced in earlier threads with respect to creating a new O/S designation for original surfaces. This coin is why original quality coins need a designation to separate them. The grade alone does not make that distinction. The bottom line here is trying to enhance a coin in this grade is a big mistake... I'm sorry but I have to write what I think based upon the scan I have seen. If I have been too harsh, I am sorry and will refrain in the future from offering such opinions. I am not trying to create any arguments, debates etc...

Coinkat no need to apoligize like that, I'm sure Placid knows you mean well, look we all could listen and learn. Take this coin for example, I am no expert on Morgans but I agree, rather I was gonna post a similar explanation as to why I feel this coin is VF-30 so your not off at all. I just hope others appreciate the ones who come out with an honest grade image

What bothers me even more is that some of those mentioned grades are by long time collectors I believe, and I can't fathom how or what their collections look like if they called this coin anything better than VF-30 (ok ,ok VF-35) !!!image

Just MHO but this is what the boards are all about

I,m thinking it grades higher than some may think only because its a better date.

  • Usually the VF seem just down right ugly but when it's a 95-O, it's all right with me!!image
