Can't say I've ever seen this on a label...

Genuine ??? I would hope.

Check out the ANACS label on this auction...

  • The 1893-S is a frequently altered or counterfeited issue. You can get an authentication only service from most places, just verifying the coin is genuine. There isn't anything abnormal about this.

Before net grading ANACS would only call a problem coin genuine. This has probably been cleaned or some other problem would cause to be bagged by PCGS or NGC

Its legit - as others have pointed out - nothing to worry about.

Silly me....I didn't even notice there wasn't a grade on the label....it all makes sense now. I will now click off in shameimage
  • I dunno about the claimed EF-40 grade....that might be a stretch.
  • VF 20 to me at best

It was a good question, I'm sure many newbs didnt know of the authentication service available.

  • It sure looks worn and tattered to me. I would never go to the extent of having it graded! I love morgans but there is nothing special about this coin.....IMO

    << <i>ANACS Certified 1893-S EF-40 Morgan >>

Does anybody else find that auction title just a bit deceptive? ANACS did not certify the grade, but this seller sure tries to make it seem that way.

    NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT IT????????
That's one of the best Morgans in the series. The least it's worth just like it is is $1,000+ and probably more depending on how close to VF it is.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • Only 100,000 minted, the lowest mintage of Morgan dollars, aside from the 1895 proof!
  • Deceptive, Yesimage Not just the fact that the seller is trying to make one believe it is certified at that grade, but also that it clearly is not a EF-40!!!image

barely makes vf-20 in my book. the sectoin of hair above the ear is barely separated from the temple, which is necesary for 20. eagle's left wing on the verge of starting to show merging. if the coin is otherwise perfect, vf-20,otherwise, very high-end fine.

the title could be constured as misleading to draw the viewer in, but i find it less misleading than most other mass-market advertisieing, esp. considering the listing layout clearly spells out the whole story. the grade is simply the seller's opinion, w/ which i happen to disagree strongly.

True but ANACS was net grading long before this coin was ever slabbed. ANACS began grading in 78 and net grading in the early 80's on their certificates. This dollar was slabbed in the early to mid 90's, possibly as late as March of 2000. I'd have to see the back of the slab in person to tell for sure if it is an ANACS 13 or 14 slab, the difference being in the size and color of the pyramids on the back logo. I believe they still offer this authenication only service but it tends to be the same price as the full service so very few people opt for it. You might though if you had a rare coin that would get netgraded down badly.
