Problems with Heritage

About 3-4 weeks ago I won a Heritage auction on eBay for a gold coin. I paid immediatly thru Paypal and received the coin. Everything was fine 'til I mistakenly sent them another Paypal payment completly forgetting my original payment.
I called the salesman twice and was assured both times that he refered the matter to his accounting department for payment. Along with the phone calls I sent him 3 emails.
Still no payment.
I've done business with Heritage before and have always been satisfied. Any comments? Twowood

You'll be happy to hear that I was contacted by a Heritage employee who read my sad story on this forum. He volunteered to help.He tracked down the problem in their acctg dep't and the check is on the way to me...Thanx ... Twowood

Unfortunately, it happened during the busiest time of the year for Heritage, but I'm sure they will get to you.

    Twowood,

I'd suggest calling and asking for the accounting department yourself, instead of going through the salesman. Have all of the information handy when you call.

The good news is, you can be confident you will get re-paid, even though it is taking too long.

They are completely, utterly disorganized right now. After five days of trying and multiple messages left, I finally got ahold of somebody today to take care of a lot I won in the FUN sale.

    Russ, NCNE
  • Russ, Why did you call and leave all those messages rather than just pay with your credit card at the MY INVOICES section of the Heritage website? I always do my auctions that way and have had no problems. Have I just been lucky so far?
  • RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
Because it has never shown up in the my invoices section.

    Russ, NCNE
  • It usually takes a few days [maybe up to five] for the invoice to appear. I guess if you have already made payment by then it probably never would materialize.
  • They are completely, utterly disorganized right now

That's a major understatement! As much as I like them they are a basket case when it comes to invoicing and crediting.

Also their website remains flakey at best, missing many coins when doing a search or not finding any. This has yet to be fixed.
  • Twowood. . .just be thankful it was someone with a bit of integrity. Had it been a New England hillbilly from ebay, you may be kissing that money goodbye. Hmmm. . why does it sound as if I write from experience image I wish PayPal would remove that darn "sendto" email history list.

Mine showed up a couple of hours after the auction but it was for darkside coins.

sorry I don't mean to be obnoxiou but frankly how do you end up paying for a coin, a gold coin at that which is not peanut money, TWICE is totally beyond me. You really can't expect them to jump to resend that payment why any one with a brain will think 100 times if indeed that payment was ever received, ever cashed, bounced, drug money?, conspiracy? ACG insiders? You get the picture HUH?image

If it helps I know you'll get your payment back one day just don't do that againimageimageimageimageimage

    Twowood ,
I suggest you call Marty Korver in accounting at Heritage . She has always been very helpful to me.

  • Heritage just finished a week of FUN, this past Sunday. I'm sure they auctioned off over 10 million dollars worth of coins (probably twice that much).

They're probably a little busy right now.

I called yesterday, asked to pick up my lots when I was there on some other business and told them, if they couldn't get them for me when I was there, no big deal. They're coins, not kidneys.

People who mistakenly make payments twice (twowood - i didn't miss your comments - you seem reasonable and saw that you were just looking for info) or who on a good day generally buy $40 coins (or less....Russ) or should probably try to be
reasonably patient. That's how people end up having pleasant things to say about you. That's how you get a large crowd at your inevitable funeral.

Incidentally, I deal with many injured people, (claimants) every day, as some of you know. The people who have the lousiest claims are
usually the ones who are the loudest and the most obnoxious. That's why I turn down people who even come close to striking me as
boils in the making. It's also a reason why I block so many people from bidding in my auctioins. ("I wouldn't buy your coins anyways, you......" Save it.)

But whatever you do, don't lean back in your chair, scratch your chin or do any thinking or self-analysis.

I've heard it before...."I don't care that you're wife just went into labor, I want my coin."

One last thing -- if the shoe fits, wear it. If not, don't sweat it.

P.S. Please unblock me from bidding on your auctions.

  • Hey dude. You know you're one of the few guys I would leave alone in a room with my inventory.

    Now that would be fun!

    Anaconda, that's a GEM!

BTW, I had my left one removed for the FUN auction but walked away empty handed. I bid too low. So my surgeon just popped it back in this morning in time for my 7am tee-time. Do you know how much you can get for a good non alcohol abused kidney? I'll take your MS62 Flowing Bust $ AND all the toned Morgans....and yes, I want change back!
  • Twowood,

I just wanted to let you know that I saw your post. I am not in the accounting department, but I can push this through if you still haven't heard anything. I would be happy to do it, so just e-mail me personally.

PS. This last weekend was, I believe, the busiest weekend in Heritage history. We are still working hard to recover and get a handle on everything. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Once I inadvertantly had a buyer pay twice for an auction. A month later we got it straighten out. The wife
had cashed the first check and I didn't realize the mistake. You would think heritage would have caught that.........umm what's this check for? I've heard it's good to put the auction number on the check.
Let us know how it turns out. And by the way, has anyone receive their invoices for coins bought from the FUN show......I'm still waiting.

Its nice to know all I have to do to get people to come to my funeral is to be nice.

I always thought I would have to feed them or give them money to come.image
