    It's actually an NGC 64....

  • The pics look great, nice job getting the cartweel to show up.

(but then again any picture of that coin would be a great picture.)

Nice, someday I'm going to have one of those in my collection. What kind of camera?
    US Navy CWO3 retired. 12/81-09/04

    Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.
  • nwcs, It is an NGC MS64.

cosmicdebris, The camera is a Nikon Coolpix 4500. The lighting is my desk lamp with a 75 watt bulb. The camera is on a tripod, and I'm holding the coin in front of the lens. Since this is my first effort at digital photography, I was amazed with the results.

I've been looking over images posted here for a couple of years now, and lately members "first images" are better than many dealer and auction house pics. Excellent work Android, you certainly have the white balance down. My first images with my 995 made the NGC incert orange!

Two small suggestions to try out: swivel the lens half of the camera body down at a 90 degree angle so you can lay the slab on your desk rather than hold it. Combined with the timer option you won't have to touch anything when the shutter is released. And I think you'd love the little extra umph an Ott-Lite or two would add to the color and lustre.
  • Thanks Shylock!

I must have been very lucky! I'm not quite sure what the white balance is yet. To my knowledge (so far) the camera was on automatic. As I was positioning the coin in front of the lens, I did notice that turning it a certain way produced that orange color you were talking about. I simply turned the coin a little more and it went away. I'm going to have to read my manual about the white balance. I'm assuming that it can be adjusted manually. By the way, what is an "Ott-lite"?

    Android,
Congrats and welcome to the Coolpix 4500 club. I got one about a month ago and love it! The reason your white balance looks good on Auto is the camera used the white background in the slab to figure out what was white. You won't be so lucky with PCGS slabs, so you will need to set the WB to incandescent, or better yet, do a custom white balance and save it in one of the 3 User memories.
A few weeks ago there were a bunch of posts on this subject you may want to review.
