Another trip to the bank for halves

MadMartyMadMarty Posts: 16,697 ✭✭✭
Got a bag with $75 in halves, found:
4-40% silvers
1-1 ounce silver round
1-10 peso mexico
1-video game token
1-20 something from poland
1-2 rupee from india
1-elongated penny
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Not bad, Marty. The silver round must have been a neat surprise. Name brand?

Was at the bank today to see if they had any new rolls of Illinois SQ's. No luck. Will
try again tomorrow. If still no luck will try my hand at all the rolled halves I can carry.

Surprised you didn't find more silver actually. Got three 1965 Washington quarters in
    change today.

  • Do you mean that the bank is so sloppy as to let elongated pennies in? Are you getting rolls or what?

I'd like to try this, but are'nt sure what you are actually doing.
    Thanks, Scott.

My last trip to get halves yielded 1 complete roll of circ Bicent'l and 3 rolls of Spenders. Plus, I got charged for dealing with a teller.
  • why do you get charged for dealing with a teller? I have never had to do that.

I think they want me to use the ATM outside. That way they can employ fewer people inside.
  • that makes sense, but i have never heard of that.

I get the bag of halves that they have on the counting machine, they seem to throw all the crap stuff in with the halves. The silver round is a pope John Paul round from Italy.

I got 2 rolls of halfs at the bank on Tuesday.

    5-1964 in BU
    1-1967
    1-1968-D

The rest were clads, and we'll use most of it as lunch money for the kids. They like spending the "big money". I added a few to my books and a few in AU and BU grades to my misc rolls of clads.
  • OK, I had to try this.

I picked up $30 in halves 60 coins, and 30 of them were those pesky clad coins. The other 30 were 40% silver. I guess I came out ahead, but I don't think there were any pre 65s.

    Pretty fun!

You guys are lucky. I went to a different bank today. The teller asked the manager for a key to the storeroom to get some halves. The manager gave her the key, and asked if she had remembered to pick out the 64's and 40%'s.

So today I got two rolls of Spenders.....I could have guessed that without even opening the rolls.....

Do you coin dealers order Halves from the bank? I figure there's no way they would search an entire $500 box.

banks have to cut frivolous spending (like customer service) wherever they can - high-rises on wall street and executive comp packages cost money you know.
