Why did Lucy go on a Franklin Post rampage?

Cause I love em!!!!
Actually, I want to say that there are many undiscovered raw Frankies to be found for very decent prices.... The same holds true for Proof Franklins. Both of my pr68DCAMS where cherry picked by me for very cheap prices, and I have other Proof Frankies that need grading........... Franklin collectors, it's the thrill of the search!!!! I have many more raw ones that I could post, I have a gorgeously lavender and pink toned 59 that didn't scan at all. I think this one will go ms65fbl, but, this one may fall victim to a bodybag.... I hope not.
Some say my posts have very little to do with coins and that my knowledge is in question. Well, I have shared some of my GEMs and my thoughts on Franklins.......

And I don't fault you for that. I don't have to understand it, but I don't fault you for it. Good enough?

I won't fault you for that either. Is that good? I stick to classical and jazz....something many other people can't find a taste for, which I also respect.

That is one beautiful coin. In fact it looks almost as good as one of my jelly donuts.

<< <i>Why does everyone get soooo excited over a Franklin Half with very few bag marks and lovely luster? There are millions of Silver Eagles and Santa Clause ingots that have a similar look, just as there are LITERALLY millions of unc Franklins. Why wouldn't bullion items, such as Franklins, have a "fresh" look to them? >>
Bullion items???
To call this coin a bullion item is well - just plain wrong.
This is one of just 255 coins graded MS65FBL, with only 11 going higher. In my personal opinion this particular coin stands at the head of it's class for several reasons. First, as you noted, it has very few bag marks and it has lovely luster. The luster is particularly impressive in that it mimics a matte finish - very nice for any coin of this type. You're right in that there are millions of uncirculated Franklins out there, but the beauty of the series is that the great majority of them, don't come even close to looking like this piece. This particular date/mint, with a mintage of I believe 8 million some, (Help me out on this one Lucy) is one of the toughest "D" mints to find in Gem FBL, along with it's 49D counterpart. Most 50D's are weakly struck and. like most "D" mint coins of the 49-54 era, have a great deal of bag marks. In addition, 1950 was the only year during which mint sets weren't manufactured, so therefore, a coin of this caliber had to come from a roll.
Whether you appreciate this series or not is immaterial, but to compare this particular coin to a santa claus or an American Silver Eagle just tells me that someone (Numised) needs to bone up on their numismatic reading.

Frank, I do think that it is a pretty coin. Also, you are correct...I do need to increase my amount of numismatic reading. Don't we all? However, with so much out there to read, I just cannot justify any time to a series like Franklins or Sacagaweas. I will, however, dedicate at least 20 minutes per week to the numismatic study of Elvis silver rounds, in honor of LucyBop. I just checked my extensive collection of RAW Elvis rounds and I noticed that some actually have FSB (full side burns), whereas others are weakly struck in that area. One example even shows a small piece of peanut butter sandwich on his chin. Wow, whata strike! I am going to send the best 247 out of my 250 Elvis rounds to PCGS to be slabbed.
