Not really sure what I am seeing on her right leg but it looks like a trace of wear with some bag marks. Looks like some marks between the eagles wings also. Darn Pretty Coin that would be taken in a heart beat.

AU58.... which is a Wild Guess.

I'm not seeing any evidence of wear from this particular photo. Sorta hard to make the luster roll over a still pic from one angle, of course.

I would say MS-63. I don't particularly care for the obv toning (which is not to say I'd dip it - I'd just leave it be.)

I remeber seeing this coin for sale... I chose to pass on it. Not attractive for the grade at all.

........MS63FH and desperate for a trip to NCS for help in the "eye appeal" department.

  • wow that's one overgraded coin (going from scan) the hits on the Rev between the wings look way to big for anything more than a 64.

I don't like the coin at all. I'd have guessed MS64. It looks rather unattractive.

Somebody must've liked it at PCGS to have market graded it so high, technically not that great, and IMO, no eye appeal either.

i was thinking a solid 64 maybe 65.....oh 66FH oh ok.I guess its nicer than the scan shows.
maybe a `flrequent flyer` and a maxxed-out coin too.I like it for the coin but not the grade really.

I thought it was a nice coin, but MS-66 nice? Not with those two marks visible above the eagle (at least for me.)

I would tend to agree this coin has been maxed-out, grade-wise.

    The sellers comments.

"With that said, this is a 1917 TY 1 SL QUARTER, PCGS MS-66FH, PQ & MS67".

My guess was MS65. That coin looks quite lustrous for a type I quarter - don't they usually come with a matte like surface? Also, let's not forget that the reverse doesn't count near as much toward the grade as the obverse - which is quite clean. With a little poetic license used to imagine the blast of the coin in person, I could see the MS66 grade. But not MS67!

I can also see this coin being a 66 full head. I just sold an anacs ms66 graded stading liberty with the same kind of toning and I think these coins really need to be seen in person. mike image

The coin looks quite detailed for the series, and I thought I could see FH characteristics; though I wouldn't have guessed as high as 66. One must remember that the coin image is an enlarged one, so those couple hits on the REVERSE wouldn't have much impact; even in this enlarged pic, most only mentioned TWO hits on the REVERSE. It does look lustrous in spite of the average looking toning, but the head, shield and date seem to be all there; sure the shield might have been more detailed, but it would also be a commensurate grade. I can't argue with the grade based on what I have to look at; no, not at all. image
