what is the most desirable color and toning pattern on silver coins?

it could be a morgan dollar to a walker to a seted coin

just give your comments and the specific coin you are referring to

for me it is monster bullseye neon toning on a silver coin like a seated coin in ms

or rainbow bullseye toning on an ms walker

or red and green toning on a barber ms silver coin

the list goes on and on

sincerely michael

You are correct, it is a matter of personal taste, I prefer bullseye or rim toning with white/near-white centers.

Here is an interesting one, nothing outrageously colored but it has golden rims and a couple of mild rainbow crescents.

I like blue and red. Whatever pattern my icon has.
  • Textile toning that covers the whole coin. Color isn't as important to me, as long as it's not black.
  • I like the ones that look like the colors you see on some cars. You know the ones that change from green to purple.

This is a tough question. My toned Peaces come in a variety of different toning patterns. But my favorite has to be the unexpected color. At first, I was mesmerized by the "in-your-face" monster toning that could be seen from across the room. But after collecting toned Peaces, you start to realize that just doesn't really happen too much with these coins.

I've come to appreciate the hidden toning several of my coins have. At first glance, you might think well that's nice and then you turn the coin a bit and the light hits it in just the right way and the colors just start dancing off the surfaces.

I just picked up a 23-D from Strat like this. If you saw the coin straight on, pretty dull and boring, as soon as it is titled, neon colors jump off the coin. I showed it to several people and the reaction is the same

"Hey, well, that's ummm, nice" slight turn of the coin "Wooowww!, that's great looking, unbelievable!"

    Rim toning is the best.

  • Hi Michael. For me, the BEST toning pattern is strong and vivid END ROLL geometry. The more radical the geometry the better. End Roll geometry with vivid color against a lustrous background is stunning!

Color wise, electric NEON Green is exciting and my favorite color - as is Fire Engine RED (not to be confused with magenta). I have seen aqua blue toning offered up as Green. It is not! True neon green color is plainly GREEN (and harder to find).

I also LOVE true "monochromatic" toning where the entire surface of the coin is washed in ONE rich
display of color. True monochromatics are tough to come by. Especially so in colors like bright Neon Green.

Textile patterns are also great and especially so if they have a "geometry" to them. image

myself I can't afford moster tone cones. but looking is free and I like the looks of a proof barber quarter my dealer had in his shop with the prettiest dark blue rim toning. I do like the dark blue, green tones much better than the liter gold tone on any coin.

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

  • You know me Michael, I like that edge and rim toning that is
symmetrical and on both sides. Problem is, so does the rest
    of the world.

  • Everybody has there preferences, mine is:

Golden French Vanilla on the entire surface being projected out of the coin by overwhelming luster like a colored diamond.
    Go well.

I like some album toning where it rainbows in from the edge. Very striking. And nice vivid rainbows are always nice. The curved ones, that is.

The mercury dime that Fairlaneman has pictured
is exactly what I shoot for in toning.

Michael- Good question. I like any toned coin that is so Eye Appealing it about jumps out of the holder, places me in a headlock and gives me a nuggie. The coin then reaches into my back pocket, pulls out my wallet and forces the bills onto the Dealer's glass case.

The images and discussion really points out the subjectivenes. I favor the blues and blue greens. The deeper reds are special but unusual. Golden colors if deep are great. I do not like browns and the yellows from retoned coins after dipping are less attractive to me . Blotchy toning is not attractive to me.
