Where have the common date coins gone

Seems when I stop in at dealers lately to look through the mercury, roosevelt, washingtons, etc they have a
real lack of new material. I used to be able to have a real pigs breakfast looking through them and would come
out with several for my sets. Lately it seems I get to look at maybe 5 or 6 and maybe find one I like. Is anyone
else seeing this or is it confined to my area? I asked the dealers about it this weekend and they said that people
just aren't bringing anything in like they have in the past. Oh well, FUN is coming up. image

I don't collect those series, but I know what you mean. It's frustrating to only see expensive super-grade coins and key dates when all I need is a type coin or a common date. There isn't as much money to be had in the sales of inexpensive coins, so a lot of dealers don't carry them. image

  • I would have to say "wrong dealer(s)".

Just the other day I spent over 3 hours looking over Type coins at my favorite local coin store, yes there were that many average and better coins to check out. Ended up getting 6 great coins and 1 fantastic coin and lots of knowledge for my new Type Set. Other transactions were happening to the left and right of me (literally). Pretty busy place considering that this was Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. Friday I got a call that several more Type Sets had just been purchased and would I like to stop by and take a look at the newest inventory.

Not all of the inventory is in the showcases. It helps to establish a good relationship with your local dealers.
