Michael Casper's going out of business

I was keeping my computer company (again) when I stumbled upon this:

For you well-heeled guys and gals (and Snakes!), this might be an opportunity. He's asking $650K minimum...

Good luck,
barney

He's getting desperate. He had it listed for $750,000 min last week. And that was down from $1Mil originally. His wife must be giving him a bunch of ...

Burn out is a very real issue!! Money might also be a factor but I will bet MY MONEY that health, family and burn out factors are more of a factor.

I was a vest pocket dealer back in the 1970's right after I graduated from College in Cleveland, Ohio and couldn't hack it after 2 years!! It was destroying my love for the hobby.

It takes a special dealer to manage to balance their love for the hobby and also be able to buy and seel coins for a living. Let me tell you I know it tortures many dealers to be able to do both! This is why many dealers have to collect something very different from the usual inventory they buy and sell.

Spouses can get very restless after a while too. Travel with weekends included for a coin dealer to stay on top of things can be all consuming and very depressing for spouses and kids and can destroy family life.

Heck it can get very depressing in Ithaca, NY in the winter by itself without all of the other issues that a coin dealership can bring to a person! The poor guy is already suffering through some snow tonight and it is not even Thanksgiving yet!!! image

Good luck Michael Casper. Come back to the hobby as a strict coin collector when you are ready!

P.S. If I had the 7 day weather forecast (shown below) in November as Ithaca, NY has I would pack and move to Florida myself!imageimage

  • he has lowered his price and also lowered the number of coins with the sale. When it was at 750k he said 90 coins came with it now 60 for 650k.

i guarantee you he is not quiting collecting just dealing for a while.
