Another trip to the bank $700 in halves this time

went to another branch of my bank today, asked if I could but the Kennedy's in the counting machine. No problem, $700 worth. The teller brings out a bag, takes the cash. I decide to look in the bag. It's full of SAC Dollars. I inform the teller, she turns real red and get the manager. The bring back the correct bag of coins. She tells me, there was over $3000 in Sacs in the bag and thanks for being so honest. Because, it wouldn't have gotten noticed for a few weeks and someone would have been in big trouble. I'm hoping the bag has goodies in it. I'll post the results later...

"Plus a box of 1974s to sort through". These wouldn't be uncirculated would they?

Its great that you were so honest - you probably saved some poor low level employee from being crucified.

Interesting find. How much does 1400 half dollars weigh?image

    I'd guess 25 to 30 lbs. A $1000 bag weighs 35 to 40 lbs. if I'm remembering correctly.
  • Hmmmmmm, a $3000 return on a $700 investment, w/ a turnaround time of a matter of minutes? Sounds to good to be true image

Sheesh, I'm lucky if I can muster $100 in halves out of our local banks.

One time I got up to $300, and finding nothing worth mentioning, I took them to another bank. Now, every time I ask about halves, I wind up with some portion of the $300 already searched and returned.

I guess I need to go out of state; what makes that so bad is that I'm right here in PA with the mother mint.

Took the halves to my branch and drove 1 town over and got the halves from their coin machine only $300 worth and...

    1-1964 Kennedy
    9-40% Kennedy's
    1-1993-S Proof
    1-1982-S Proof
    1-England 10 New Pence
    1-France 5 Francs

All in all, I'm a happy camper. I think the way to go is to get the bank to sell you the bag on the counting machine...

I didn't think there were any MS 74-S halves. Am I wrong?

It's not the halves, but that the teller gave me a $4500 bag of SACs in place of the JFKs. For one moment I actually thought about not saying anything. But that branch gets about $500-$1000 in halves every 3 months and they have no problems with me buying the bag (a lot of banks will not sell the coins in the bags on their machines!).

  • Excuse my ignorance,
How big of a branch has such a machine? I bank at a small branch, and then NEVER have halves. Just about ever. Now, what is the scoup on buying the bag off the counting machine? Sounds like a keen idea. I live just outside of Indianapolis, and there are LOTS of big branches there image Where do you call to order change, or do ya just walk in?

    THanks

I just walked in and asked then if I could buy the bag of halves on the counting machine. I went to 5 banks, 2 let me buy them, 2 said no, and 1 only had 2 halves in the bag. I have bought many rolls and have gotten nothing. But out of the $1000 of JFKs, I found more silver and other stuff, then I have found in $2000 worth of rolls. Tomorrow into the City!!!
