Wayte-Raymond Toning (???) Take a look...

image

I got this today - really pretty toning on it - Is this Wayte-Raymond toning or is it more like the toning on Binion dollars?

Thanks!

  • I don't know what kind of toning that is, but it SURE looks like an 1899 Micro "O."

Believe it or not, but I've seen coins come out of the early NGC holders looking like this one.....and that's after they started out bright white!

  • There's good pix in the "Top 100" book. Or The "Big Book." If no one else gets you some, I'll dig mine out. They aren't real handy right now.

  • Check the eagle's left wing (The one on the right side of the coin.) for heavy diagonal polishing marks right where the feathers intersect. About 5 feathers up from the bottom of the wing. If they are there, you have a VAM 5. The rarest. If not, it's either a 4 or 6. Either way, if it IS a Micro "O"...KA-CHINGGGG!!!

  • Well - as you can see from the pic below, I think I have a regular mint marked coin. There are some very faint die polishing marks on the wing, but alas - no ka-shing on this one - still - it's a pretty coin image

  • You're right, it IS a pretty coin. I got all excited when I saw the MM in the first shot, though.

  • Thanks JC - I got excited too - but oh well - learned something new - that's the good part! image

It looks more like the toning that is encountered with many of the Paramount/Redfield Hoard coins.
