Finger print for David Hall
DRG
Here is a finger print on a coin I recently had graded. I assure you it was not there when I sent the coin in. This is only one of many examples I have had recently. I have been planning to send them back but I was not sure how I would be treated so I have held back and hoped for the best.
P.S. It looks worse in real life.

The fingerprint may not have been visible to them when the coin was graded...
I've got a prooflike 1880-S dollar that i would submit to PCGS if only DH would put his fingerprint on it...it would be a great rarity...

It appears that i have uttered a false statement...
Question for David Hall: Why don't you guys use gloves?
PCGS handlers wearing facemasks to eliminate the risk of spittle striking the pristine surfaces of my 1880-S dollar would be a nice touch...

or DH should be shaving the swoops and swirls off their fingers...

for not wearing gloves...

how about the coin being placed on a sophisticated cushion of rushing chemically pure air while being graded. In essence, the coin is allowed to "float" while being necessarily handled by the glove-wearing grader...
the air pressure settings would have to be different for various denominations for obvious reasons...
"What do you mean you lost my trime because you forgot to reset the air pressure after grading an Ike?"

Maybe an electromagnetic field would be easier to control than air. Then again.... if something does go wrong it could end up like one of those shrunken coins that guy makes with his tesla coils!
Worst part about this is the seller said nothing about the Finger Print and the coin is not worth enough to go through all of the Hassle of having it taken care of. Guess I will just keep it for the Finger Print Set.

an idea can't be patented..."patent pending" is where it's at for us...
we are brilliant,eh?

Together, I'm sure we could develop the technology to propel a coin through a concrete block wall!
I'll bet a fingerprint couldn't survive that....
clark, how much would you go on a unique 1880-S DH fingerprinted dollar?
prooflike...

Mr. Hall gave explicate instructions in anothr thread on how to cantact him for problems such as this. If you want something done just do as he suggested. If you just want to bit@h about something and are looking for a place to be heard go to the open forum.
The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
let me guess...interested in what Mr. Hall's answers are to the tough questions, interested in what Mr. Hall might consider in requests so as to make PCGS an even greater company than it is,interested in his considerations of the bonafide complaints so as to better serve his customers in the future...the customers...the ones who made his company great?...
Mr. Hall has the same choices that we all have on these boards. He can choose to participate or he can choose not to participate.Mr. Hall can choose to ignore...In short,Mr. Hall can choose to not be "overloaded," right?
The customer is not always right,WW,but the customer should always be heard no matter how unsettling the message...if you own just one PCGS encapsulated coin you are a PCGS customer...
i think the PCGS capsule is the best...there...a boring, could be construed as self-serving compliment...

No one it telling anyone they cannot be heard BUT I think starting a thread in the forum is a sad attempt to put Mr. Hall on the spot and it is BS. This is not the place to address him with personal problems they would be much better handled in private. If you do not agree with that then you have not yet grown up. You walk into my store yelling and making a scene trying to draw attention to yourself and put me on the spot I would care less about what your problem is and throw you out on your butt.

Nice coin man even with the print!!
MS66 is tough to get.
The print might dip off, might not or might reappear. PCGS will help you and good luck and good eye!!

what personal problems?...i would never share my personal problems on a public forum such as this...
Are you of the opinion that discussion of fingerprints on coins should be forbidden in this place?

Read the title of the thread....

Quit double talking. This thread was started for one purpose and it was all self serving.
The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
Now many coins graded today look great, but will the oils from a persons skin infect a coin over time and have the rim turn and them the obverse and reverse turn.
I would like to suggest the graders find a method in which is a comprimise... cloth bandages or finger cotts should give the coin protection while allowing the graders control.
Maybe we are going too far if we make it personal, but we should be allowed to share knowledge in which may have the potential to prevent fingerprints in the first place.

self-serving OP?...naw
i learned something that, incredibly,i didn't know by my participating in this thread...
They don't use gloves at PCGS because gloves don't allow a firm hold of the coin while it's being handled...
i assumed gloves are used...i was shown to be mistaken after i publicly put forth my hasty assumption...
kind of grown-up of me to publicly admit that i was mistaken,WW?

I hope you continue to post as you please.
>Why are so many members overloading Mr. Hall with a bunch of petty self serving questions, requests and complaints?
My question is, Why aren't more.
This board is for all to use and learn from.
Coinguy was correct in requesting civility from other members.
If by chance you should run into a thread that you feel is not up to your standards, I suggest you take the David Hall approach and ignore it.
I took his glowing response to the question about finger prints as a real desire to address the problem if it existed. As I have at least 2 recent examples, and a few more if I go looking, I thought I would bring it up as a topic and show some evidence.
If that is self serving.... I don't know what to say. I thouhgt this forum was to talk about coins and that would include the development of prints at the grading service.
Again, My read on Mr. Hall's coment was that he wanted to see evidence of the problem. I by no means was trying to insult him or berate him. I was thrilled that he was actually threatening to do bodily injury to anyone that had left prints on coins. (Although I am sure, and hope, that he meant this figuritively only).

I personaly(speaking for myself only) would like to thank you for the post.
The question of fingerprints has been brought up on many occasions and it seems that there has never been a satisfactory answer.
Even in the Q&A forum.
Now at least there seems to be some recognition of the problem and attention is being paid.
