1995-96 Topps Finest Mystery Bordered Refractor Chris Webber bv$600


The refractors were test versions that never made it to the actual packs, most were destroyed but somehow a few slipped out from Topps and onto the market.

    you can buy every card in that set for $9.99, except the Jordan and the Shaq (Jordan books $2500(!) and sells for about $250-$300, and Shaq books $1000(!) and sells for about $40

    why do these book so high if they can be bought so cheap? I bought mine fairly cheap but not 10 bucks -- geez.. show me one right now on ebay for $10, can you??

    well on that auction -- first of all, not a great title, very little description, and no scan. A scan of the Beckett Annual page showing the book would've been nice too. If these were in the monthly people would start to pay more for them, I guarantee you that. But not as many collectors check out the Annual.

    Just curious...were you expecting $600 in trade value for that webber?

    I think there is plenty of proof that this card is basically crap. Why Beckett doesn't change the priceguide boggles the mind. $600 for that piece of crap? Face it man, if you paid over $20 for that card you got ripped.

    just putting it out there... taking it to a card show is actually a good idea -- I'm gonna try that next time...

    an idea of why they go cheap without scans could be bidders aren't sure if they really are the Refractor versions. I know I got all excited when I found a Mystery Bordered Jordan card in a collection I bought, but then later saw it wasn't a refractor. Maybe seller's are putting them up claiming they are a refractor with no scan, therefore accepting the bid amount. FYI - I saw the David Robinson from this set with a scan about a month ago on ebay go for close to $100 -- I know because I was in the bidding.

    still it is unique they these were not supposed to exist -- that much is true, as for the book value.. I'll definitely check up on the next annual to see what they price them at

    These cards were back doored big time from Topps. I remember when they first surfaced i was in Japan and they started popping up at card shows in Tokyo. They were hot for awhile then Topps got wind of it and started asking questions and a few guys got popped. Then they vanished and reapearred in large amounts last year and now can be had for dirt cheap. They are total crap and i think sooner or later beckett will delist them after they dump to super low levels.

    Stay away from that junk.

    I bought my Webber bordered refractor for $18.50, and yes it is a refractor image

    BUT image

    These cards have been popping up a lot on Ebay lately and have been going for cheap; I'm somewhat worried that somebody might be "refractoring" the regular Bordered Mystery Finest cards somehow. I guess taking the card to a show to see what somebody will give for it might be a good idea, but you might want to make devotionals to every deity thought to exist in the case you're (albeit unwittingly) pawning off a fake card image
