options on the constant bickering here?

Are there any options on what to do about the constant bickering between forumn members? I have seen other forumns where you are able to block posts from people you choose. This might be a drastic measure but it might bring back some civility. mike

The only option I can think of is a team of moderators, but that's been discussed before. It seems to go in waves and everything gets civilized after all the muck is vented. Personally, I wish we'd stick with coin discussions for the most part.

    darktone,

Ignore it and it WILL go away. Many of those threads are prolonged by posters who get sucked in and apparently feel compelled to say something. That only adds fuel to the fire and provides additional attention to those who seek it.
  • If you have nothing good or constructive to say, then say nothing at all.

If you wouldn't say it in person, then think about NOT posting it here.

If your post is about the personalities, rather than the coin, then DO NOT post it here.

Do not respond to those threads.

censorship is NOT the answer to anything, at least not in this country. fortunately, the Constitution does provide us with the freedom to make choices, such as choosing not to read or react to stupidity.

  • I think the solution is for everybody to get together in person and shake hands. We wouldn't attack each other so much if we were in the same room.

So let us continue to meet at shows. Next up: Santa Clara.

I'll second this motion. I think it is very difficult to dislike someone you have share time and perhaps a meal with (even if it's only a soda and chips at the snack stand).

I stay out of all the personal threads, and would have stayed out of this one except you did ask for options. image

The answer is simply not to respond to the type of posts you don't like, like others have said. Oh, I do have to bite my tongue at times, but I will stick to my guns and not reply. If there's something in one of those posts that I absolutely must comment on, I will send a PM.

    It will pass quickly, anyway.

Limit your responses to any one person's remarks in a thread to 2. After that, the amount of information useful or entertaining to anyone else declines rapidly. further correspondence between antagonists should be conducted through PM's, where the tone tends to be much more civil.

Ultimately what you all are saying requires:

    1. Thicker skin
    2. Self discipline
    3. Forgiveness

    I agree.

I was going to agree, but then I reread the message. You didn't suggest prison, after all.

  • CoinGuy1-
You are right. I was stupid to feel compelled to respond to the personal attacks, name calling and immature behavior of someone bragging of all the margaritas she had consumed last night.

I tried to pursuade her to take a position of just avoiding one another's posts and she starts up with the attacks again. I don't care for her, she doesn't like me and that is perfectly fine. I'll stay away from her posts and if a flare up begins, then Members will know how it began.
  • The only way to handle this problem that could upset the balance of power, may start a nuclear war or worse (I mean this really is a serious problem) is a firing squad. Line 'em up and take 'em out.

DCAM - In another thread, I asked Lucy to bury the hatchet with you. So, in fairness to her, I'll ask you to do the same.
  • I think it might be a mistake to ask Lucy to bury a hatchet in Dcam.

  • CoinGuy1-
I tried that last night. Just read through this thread

    LINK

After a little flaming she sets off and creates a thread about me. That is the FOURTH thread she has created specifically about me with my ID in the title. I've never created any threads about her.

I said before that I will stay away from her posts and hopefully she will stay away from mine.

What in the heck do you mean by that, Kranky? Huh?! ANSWER ME!!! image

I find it odd that flame-war threads gets lots of reponses, and serious questions and discussions that are purely about coins and their history get pushed down to the second or third page. image

  • Dcam wrote Lucy- I am really tired of your crap. You don't like me. Fine. I really couldn't give a crap
Thats what Dcam calls "burying the hatchet"
no wonder why she whats to cut you a new one.
  • With regard to the bickering, the flaming, etc., etc., I have found it easiest (here lately!) to just not let it bother me.

Changing yourself is WAY easier than changing other people. (Activist or Conformist or Escapist - escapist is the clear choice. You do what you want to do.)

  • agentjim007- You would make an excellent Democratic political reporter following a Republican candidate. You take ONE LINE out of an entire thread, place it in your post and then draw a conclusion from that. The inteligent Members are smart enough to use my link above to read the entire thread and draw their own conclusions. They don't need you taking one comment out of context and "helping" them come to an INcorrect conclusion!
  • That line speaks for itself, no other statement can defend it.

Bottom line is, if you don't want it done or said to you, don't do or say it to someone else, and if it's done or said to you first, turn the other cheek. These are basic tenents of human existence and if followed, or at least attempted to follow, we would have a much better and more enjoyable human existence. I have never been in a fight my entire life(sadly, I doubt many can say the same) and have always steered clear of physical and even verbal conflict. I have had a much happier and more serene life because of this chosen attitude. I realize that egos can be fragile but they can also be dangerous and damaging. If attacked verbally or physically, I always try to understand why that person did or said that(called putting yourself in someone elses shoes) and I try not to lash back thereby perpetuating an already ugly situation. Turning the other cheek isn't always easy. It takes a proper attitude toward others and a real willingness to try to be decent and kind. If more people would try as hard to "get along" as they do condemning and criticizing, not only would this board be a better place to visit and interact, but the whole world would be a better place in which to live.

Tolerance and understanding.....Please make a concerted effort for the sake of humanity and your own peace of mind.

Remember, "It takes two to Tango"

    Sincerely(and I mean it), Richard

I remember one member on a thread like that saying how he posted about a nice coin he got and it received 3 replies - while the BS posts recieve many times more. That's why I think a new forum should be created.

BTW - I think Lucy likes DCAM but she just doesn't know how to show it.

I like the BS threads because they're interesting. When there is no high profile thread this forum can get BORING. My wife's mother belongs to the Red Hat club. I don't know what the Red Hat club is but its about as interesting to me an many of the threads. Once in a while things have to stirred up just to see if you guys are alive.
  • Dcam, I wouldn't start putting on the colonge or plucking your nose hairs just yet. I don't think Lucy is dreaming about you.
  • Trust me, there is absolutely no reason to change from the great gals here.

See CoinGuy1, I passed on the opportunity to deliver the line I really wanted to make! Improvement?
