Do you ever wonder who you are talking to?

I understand some people want to remain anonymous. I can appreciate that. You have the freedom to say what you want how you want but there are some people who I just want to know who they are. Specifically Truthteller. I never had a conversation with this guy but read his posts. He's usually right on the money and I just wonder who he is and how did he get so smart? How long did it take and how much money did he loose(or make) to get there?

Truthteller--I respect you keeping your identity to yourself. Just give me hint. Have we ever met? Are we friends or foes?

Are there any other members you are curious about who they are?

  • I follow quite a few forums and, after a while, I usually 'know' who I am talking to even when I have never met them or don't know much personal stuff about them in real life.

I have met some people offline who I conversed with online and that is often nice and I enjoy it. I also have had email and chat conversations with people outside of normal forums and that is nice too.

Some people put themselves 'out there' more than others but really, to me, it is more often more important to know how they are on whatever forum rather than how they are in real life because I will probably never get a chance to meet most people who I listen to everday online.
Time sure flies when you don't know what you are doing...

    Hey Numish,

<< <i>Specifically Truthteller. I never had a conversation with this guy but read his posts. He's usually right on the money and I just wonder who he is and how did he get so smart? >>

He is smart because he knows, It's only a friggin' die crack!!!, but really there are a few members of the board I'd love to go and tip a few beers (or margaritas) with. Just to see what they are like away from the boards.

BTW, I would really like to see puskins cat in person, the is the biggest furball I have ever seen...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I frequently wonder who I'm talking to. Since I spend an inordinate amount of time talking to myself, could this be a problem?

    Russ,
You beat me to the punch again, my answer was gonna be "You mean when I'm alone?" Great minds think alike I guess.....

Don't feel bad Russ, I've been talking to myself for most of my life, here and beyond. It's called
    soliloquy.

Hello? Anybody there? Damn, I've just ended another thread.

    Hey Numish,

I agree with you. There are some on-board personas whose commentary makes me want to hunt them down, and yet, in other circumstances, particularly one on one is a PM, they come across as a wholey reasonable and likable person. What's up wit dat?

Yes and no. I've done online message boards since 1989 so I'm no stranger to it. I'm always a bit curious about the people behind the handles, though. But I can live with a mystery. image
  • I am sure the identity thing would be something that one would like to get more information about. In this type of bulletin board posting being anonymous is easier than in the chatroom that I used to hang out in. There you sometimes got another person's life story. The focus of that chatroom was to meet people and they would become your friend or enemy. It was more of a social rather than a professional basis as on this forum. On there, emotions played a greater role. But there have been many forum members who have actually met others.

Sometimes its not so much who you are talking to,

rather its what you are talking to. It is sometimes questionable if

your cyber correspondance is actually with a human being.

Irish Mike - My strong feeling is that whenever I talk, NO ONE IS LISTENING.

When you get to my age , you are already talking to yourself anyway, so

    whats the difference. Bearimage

I canNOT believe how much your Boxer looks like mine! My Scout is fawn with the slight line of white going down the middle of the face to the nose. He has 1/2 white feet, though most all of his chest is white. His ears are natural and mostly black. I can't tell. Does your dog have some brindle coloring? How old is he?

    ok, now the real question:

Do you ever wonder who you are talking down to? image
  • BearBear Posts: 18,953 ✭✭✭
Since I am a very small bear, its rather hard for me

to talk down to people. Perhaps if I stood on a table

do you think that might work?
