Let's Buy a 1895 PR67 Morgan

Saw this on ebay an 1895 Proof 67 Morgan dollar. Had an idea if 100 forum members contribute about $600 each we can buy this. Any takers. We could say we own 1895 Pr morgan. Any takers?

Was wondering does the Smithsonian have any Morgans including 1895 Proof in their Coin gallery?

60 people at 1000 dollars or 600 people at 100 dollars

Normally Morgans don't float my boat, but I have to say that after looking at that one I'm at high tide.image

  • A $57K coin on ebay...brother...

Well, I guess they did sell a hockey team (Anchorage Aces) for a million + on ebay.
  • We could all treat it like the Stanley Cup...each guy on the team gets to spend the day with it image
  • if I was in the collecting mode I am in today ten years ago (read that as "more reckeless financial position"), I would have bought that coin.

With kids to send to college, it ain't happenin', but it doesn't mean I don't want it.

880 minted. I would rather go for one of the proof peace dollars on heritage with a mintage of 15 and they are less $.
  • I guess we can treat it like a stock and give out Morgan certificates claiming part ownership of the coin.

  • Sure, why not. First timeshare Morgan dollar, each member of the consortium gets it for 2.65 days out of the year, that's minus 1 day for overnight shipping time!

Looks like a so-so coin to me. The cameo doesn't look full at all, which is probably why NGC didn't give it the cameo designation.

I'll take the proof Peace over it anyday.
  • That's a great idea. We can keep the coin at my house and you guys can come over anytime to see it. BOB

  • Lets see, lists it boldly as cameo, but not certified as such. Surprised we were not flogged with the price these beauties were bringing in 1989! Still would love to own it. Think my wife would understand a 60,000.00 equity loan ? lol

  • I wonder if this is the same coin that sold for $50,025 at the ANA Auction in New York? That was also PR-67.

  • Wow, nobody bought the coin, I am surprised. I thought maybe Mike Casper would want that coin in his collection.
